Madness to think, but I've not been able to find a thread specifically dedicated to Phil Coutinho.

Anyway, for the first time in as long as I can remember, Saturday's game didn't involve the 'shoot on sight' approach that we've seen in recent years, and I think it was much improved.

Playing in that play-maker role, I think he can be one of the very best in the world. Added to that, the few well-timed bursts forward and obviously choosing when to strike it from distance more smartly, his decision-making matched the 'world class' level of ability that he possesses - something that, to be fair, it hasn't been before.

Only one occasion, but hope we can see it more often.

It's the only thing stopping him from reaching that level, in my opinion.

I think he's taken more long-range shots (120 odd) than anyone else this season, and scored 5% accuracy (something like that).

I love the options in our attack right now. If they can all stay fit, we will continue to bang goals in.

You think he's taken 120 odd long range shots in 5 games? That's about one every 3 minutes. I don't think it is something like that.

To me Coutinho still coming across as the backup to the main stars, good and not good enough, to be the main star,

And the fact I don't think we found the best position for him in the team,

Still goes missing in games, needs more consistent,

But there is definite signs of improvement

"Since the start of 2015, @Phil_Coutinho has scored more goals from outside the box of any premier league player - 8."

    HOWEVER:

"He's also taken the most shots from outside the box during the same period 152 or 5% conversion rate."

Hence why it simultaneously appears like all he ever does is shoot, miss AND score. He's weird like that.

You have a genius for slating anything and everything Man Utd, anywhere and everywhere.

Yeah that feels about right - he tries his luck perhaps 4/5 times per game, and scores about every 4th or 5th game. TBF though, in many of those games 2 or 3 of the shots might well be free kicks.

How many of them would Ronaldo get and score/ season? Probably plenty, and not that many.

He seems to be benefitting from the competition, and from not being an automatic on the team sheet anymore. As do a lot of them.

His shooting is also now very good, I have to say. He doesn't seem to be just trying to overpower them, and instead seems to have incorporated elements of his passing.

Well someone would have to be as intellectually challenged as Shrek to come up with stats like those.

Coutinho to me still seems like a McManaman-esque "scorer of great goals, not a great goalscorer" cliche player.

Saying that, Lallana has got 4 in 8 which is his best return ever, so under Klopp in a proper team, I wouldn't necessarily rule out Coutinho stepping up. I think he's already at 4 goals in 7 games, which is clearly an improvement.

Complete joy to watch is Phil. His form is tip top at the moment. An assist against Chelsea from a corner, assist and goal against Derby in the cup and two assists and a goal against Hull.

    Fantastic!

    Totally agree.

When he's in this form, he looks the genius that he is. His movement and spacial awareness against Hull was absolutely superb.

    Such a clever footballer.

Bad news for Coutinho and his fans I'm afraid

He's just gone into my Fantasy Football team - that's the end of his good form then

Some are suggesting that he should be on the bench for the Swans match. Why?

Coutinho to me still seems like a McManaman-esque totally wrong comparison

McManaman was are Gerrard 90's, he made whole team tick and could take the game by scuffs neck

Coutinho is nowhere as good as that level, he get in Atlético Madrid team but find hard to make subs bench of Barcelona/Real Madrid

Coutinho is get better but not quite there yet

Quality shouldn't be measured simply by goals scored.
