Fowler, in his first 3 months as a senior player, at 18:

Making a scoring first-team debut in Liverpool's 3–1 win in a first round League Cup tie at Fulham on 22 September 1993.[8] Fowler scored all five goals in the second leg at Anfield two weeks later, making him the fourth player in Liverpool's history to score five in a senior fixture.[9] He scored his first league hat-trick against Southampton in only his fifth league game. His very first league goal for the Reds had come on 16 October 1993, when an 87th-minute equaliser at home to struggling Oldham Athletic saved the Reds from what would have been one of the biggest Premier League shocks of the season, with a last gasp own goal giving Liverpool a 2–1 win.[10] He scored twice in a thrilling 3–3 draw at Tottenham Hotspur on 18 December.
His first 13 games for the club yielded 12 goals.

Yep I remember Fowler debuting, extrodinary player- But you took that comment to literally, I was pointing out that for every failure there is still a sucsess, not a direct comparison.

I'd say our history in the last 10 years isnt that promising when it comes to young players, I hope he proves me wrong, I just dont see it right now and I'm so bored of every young local player getting hyped up on here.

Ah so no successes ever before then?

Seriously it now seems your suggestion is don't bother with youth or potential because these previous players failed

Really bizarre, as I said you should judge each player in isolation, he may or may not make it, but his potential is very clear and how you can write him off so quickly based on very little reasoning (other than here is a list of non related failures) is beyond me.

It is bizzarre, so insistant that focusing on like it is Liverpool fault and every youngster will fail, I was beginning to wonder if Adam's surname was "Morgan"

Adam if it happens to be true, we are sorry it didn't quite go as you'd hoped, football is a cruel game

glad to see young woodburn take another step in his c areer with a call up by wales. with coleman in charge the lad could do quite well, unlike the mess that is the england team. well deserved and hopefully we'll get to see more of him before this season ends - a few goals wouldn't go amiss either

aye, since he's been moved up to the U23's been able to finally see what others were on about, the kid has some skills... and doesn't look out of place.

if you have watched him he is far better than "ANY" decent player. i said awhile ago that imo he is a potential class player.. if he succeeds or not is a different question entirely but he has the ability for sure... key factor, i bet he ends up driving a mini.

I expect there are many very good young players out there at English clubs, trouble is something is wrong somewhere as very few PL clubs have produced really good players in recent years.

You just have to look on here at all the posters giving their input on what players to buy, no English talent hardly mentioned, lots of young Bundesliga players, Lique 1 players etc

No idea on the youth set up in those leagues, is it far better than ours? Are our clubs just too scared to play youngsters because you just have to win/stay in the PL now.

Look how much Man City have spent on their youth set up, I very much doubt we will see many in any come out of that and play in the first team on a regular basics.

I think the talent is there, just never gets seen and then its too late.

Yeah in the league, between the CL games against them, even started at the beginning of 08/09 I think. Strange one, he actually looked very composed that day.

I'm sure i'll get slated for this, but please remember how everyone hyped up Adam Morgan on here. Whats he doing today? Playing non league at 22 years old.
This is laughable and the fact that you said he has no strength and can't finish means you have t watched the kid play.

You'd get slated because you're talking nonsense as your opinion isn't based on anything factual

yup agreed, he shone that day. very strange he never ever (hardly) ever got a chance after that. looking at the "young" young players now being pushed and fast tracked my fingers are very firmly crossed some will finally make it full time into the team...

It's all fine margins really, none of those really made a name for themselves at Liverpool (Martin Kelly the closest out of those) but one or two have gone on to make a decent career in the professional game. Mikel San Jose Dominguez is doing well in La Liga. Martin Kelly has been playing regularly for Crystal Palace. A few more at Championship/League 1 level (Anderson, Peltier, Hammill, Spearing, Darby, Flynn). I wonder what on earth happened to Plessis? I remember him making his unexpected debut at The Emirates in 2008 in a 1-1 draw.

Mind you, Jordy Brouwer was appallingly bad. He must have done something amazing by accident when we scouted him.

It just seems all he could base it on, as he didn't score.
If you don't start your career like Fowler or Owen, the player is doomed, apparently.

Have you watched Woodburn play for the U23's?

The kid has huge amounts of potential.

Would love to see him on loan in the prem for 6-12 months. Just think the U23 league isn't competitive enough.
