By far one of the most underrated players we've had. Everyone wanted him dropped when he was here, and most people on here championed the signing of Barry as a replacement for him.

It's only when he went to Madrid and dominated for them that people on here realised that he's a bit good.
Him and Masch in their prime 2008/09 would simply transform our MF now. We would walk the title. That MF was arguably up there with the days of Souness and McDermot etc. You had the tackling of Masch, the pasing of Xabi and the box to box and goals of Gerrard. What a MF. With Riera in there too has anyone seen a better balanced MF than that. If it hadnt been for Rafa's ridiculous caution and "resting" players we'd have won that title.

It would have been even better if he would spelt his name right or put the picture of Xavi Hernandez there

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but Xabi already has 2 CL Winners medals with 2 different clubs. The chances of him getting a 3rd winners medal with yet another club are high.

Not everyone collapses ... not like that anyway. Cant really tell me that a capable team, which PSG should have been, will collapse like that. It certainly looked pretty miraculous to me.

He still has 2/3 years in him.

What a player, what a man.

For me, they're a better side with a better manager than Real, Barca, Juve and City. I see them going past those sides. If anyone can break them it's Atletico.

Was just a cheeky retort mate. Haha.
Bayern have as much of a chance to win the UCL as Barca. I don't mind seeing either Alonso or Suarez winning it this season really. May even support bayern now in the competition as a swansong for our beloved Xabi.

Truly. Always been a classy player. Shame that he had a bit of a bad phase at Liverpool. I put that more down to how Rafa was trying to play Xabi and Masch. I dont think Xabi going to Madrid was all because his kids could be born in Spain. I like Rafa but he was probs not the easiest manager to get along with.

agree, the best lying deep playmaker of his generation, the best midfielder of that sort to have worn the LFC shirt alongside Jan Molby,

had been it not for Rafa, maybe he would have still donned our shirt, who knows? maybe for further five years,

but we know how Rafa was a character difficult to get on well with, a stubborn personality indeed,

He would simply walk into any team in the world. And he's retiring. 😩

Great player and he's been sorely missed since his departure. loads of great memories and one of the few players worthy of his salary, worth every penny. Every Liverpool fan should be wishing him and his family all the very best for the future. Will never forget his goals from our own half and a lot more too. Cheers Xabi.

for the real value I deemed the bloke at the time, I think a 50m - 60m fee would have been more fair,

in the same brackets of a World beater ala CR7 as global value of the player himself, and we know how much RM splashed to take CR7 away from manure,

I remember it didn't feel like enough at the time.

The likes of Milner and Adebayor moved for just as much that summer.

    Glen Johnson cost us 17m!

Fantastic player, one of our best midfielders ever, superb passer, great composure and scored some class goals.
One of my favourite memories was when we played in a FA cup match, we counter attacked and Stevie was screaming for the ball as he would have been able to walk it in to the net but instead alonso shot from inside his own half. Stevie was about to rant at him but the ball went in, class moment!
Anyway xabi thanks for the great memories and enjoy ** retirement!

It wasn't bad, but the likes of Lescott were moving for over 20m and I'm sure at the time it still felt too low. Then Mascherano going for like 18m next year was the final kick in the teeth. Was worth considerably more than 30m, it was the catalyst in our disintegration.

No brainer for us to invite him in for a season. Should have given SG 5 months, we didn't so I do not expect an approach for Xabi.

    Good luck to the fella.

Could of played for a few more years but probably not at the level he expects from himself.

Fair enough. Thanks for the memories, Xabi
