It's also that someone who scores lots of goals somehow can't contribute or indeed steals goals from the others like there are only X goals to go around.

Just look at a certain Luis Suarez, scored goals and the team scored 101 in the league season, indeed we had him and Sturridge score 20+ And to finish off since my PC is doing something I need to be here a bit longer for, here's the Champions' top 3 scorers for the last however many seasons I decide to go back

    Top 3 goalscorers for champions*

    16/17 Chelsea* (55) : Costa 16, Hazard 10, Pedro 7
    15/16 Leicester (68) : Vardy 24, Mahrez 17, Ulloa 6
    14/15 Chelsea (73) : Costa 21, Hazard 15, Remy 7
    13/14 Man City (102) : Toure 20, Aguero 17, Dzeko 16
    12/13 Man Utd (86) : Van Persie 26, Rooney 12, Hernandez 10
    11/12 Man City (93) : Aguero 23, Dzeko 14, Balotelli 13
    10/11 Man Utd (78) : Berbatov 20, Hernandez 13, Rooney 11
    09/10 Chelsea (103) : Drogba 37, Lampard 26, Malouda 15
    08/09 Man Utd (68) : Ronaldo 18, Rooney 12, Berbatov 9
    07/08 Man Utd (80) : Ronaldo 31, Tevez 14, Rooney 12
    06/07 Man Utd (83) : Ronaldo 17, Rooney 14, Saha 8
    05/06 Chelsea (72) : Lampard 20, Drogba 14, Crespo 13
    04/05 Chelsea (72) : Lampard 13, Gudjohnsen 12, Drogba 10
    03/04 Arsenal (73) : Henry 30, Pires 14, Ljunberg/Bergkamp/Silva 4 each
    02/03 Man Utd (74) : Van Nistelrooy 25, Scholes 14, Solksjaer 9
    01/02 Arsenal (79) : Henry 32, Wiltord 17, Ljungberg 17
    00/01 Man Utd (79) : Sheringham 15, Solksjaer 10, Yorke/Cole/Beckham 9 each

*not declaring Chelsea champions, put in for comparison as clear leaders

So in TWELVE of the previous 16 seasons the champions had a top scorer with 20+ goals despite TEN of the Champions scoring under 80 goals. In 5 seasons the Champions had two scorers with 15+ goals each, 3 of those all 3 top scorers managed 15+ goals each.

And only in ONE of the last 16 seasons has no scorer managed 15+ goals for the champions. I'm not saying we need to set our stall to be champions, but if wanting to score 72+ goals as most champions do as a bare minimum then it helps to have a regular scorer and not just lots of players chipping in.

And looking more inwardly, our own successes in relative terms in the league saw our top scorer manage 19 (Owen 01/02), 16 (Gerrard 08/09) and 31 (Suarez (13/14) when finishing runners-up. Indeed in our entire Premier League history just FOUR names make up 15 of our 23 season's top scorers - Fowler, Suarez, Owen and Torres - and only in two of those 15 seasons did the top scorer not manage 16+ goals.
People will believe what they want to believe

the three dominat sides of the last 15 years all have one key component our defense does not , a commanding leader

cheslea had terry, united vidic and city kompany

we lack that and need it more than we need a 20 a season striker...

but its summer and considering klopp hjas a negative spend of 16 m over the last three windows maybe he will sign both and a winger and a holding midfield and a left back this summer
