That is good, but when they insist on no games on their days, they shouldn't really add more of them, or say games can be played that week. What if they do the same with Quarter Finals. Like when the FA Cup tried to mess up with Quarter Finals and had that year there was one game a day Monday to Thursday instead of two Saturday and two Sunday.

They did? When was that? I don't remember.

Oh really? That's interesting. So they're going to clash with the CL games next week then. UEFA will be thrilled.

It's an 8pm kick off too.

They're not even doing that thing that Man.Utd and West Ham did last year when they had a 7pm kick off as a compromise.

So no sooner do we get confirmation that Man.City's game with Stoke is postponed, due to City beating Huddersfield in the FA Cup, the game is already rescheduled. And for a date earlier than the original. Now that's what I call prompt.

Why can't all the games be rescheduled so decisively?

I like this article - Claude Puel is complaining that they had too many games at Christmas and that they don't have enough games now.

Same problem as us really. It would be nice to balance the games out better, but in reality it never works that way.

SOUTHAMPTON MANAGER CLAUDE PUEL FUMES AT 'CRAZY' FIXTURE LIST
AFTER EFL CUP DEFEAT AS SAINTS PLAY JUST TWO MATCHES IN FOUR WEEKS

Southampton boss Clause Puel has lamented his side's upcoming fixture list

The Saints have two games in the next four weeks, with six in four in April

Their first game after their EFL Cup loss against Man Utd is against Watford

Puel says it's difficult to keep players focused with so much time between games

Claude Puel has lamented a 'crazy' schedule for Southampton that features just two matches in four weeks.

The Saints boss insists his coaches will face a tough challenge keeping the players fit and focused during a desperately quiet March.

Southampton already face six matches in April, with Premier League games against Manchester United and Arsenal yet to be rearranged.

Saints take on Watford on Saturday with Frenchman Puel demanding his side shake off any lingering malaise from last weekend's 3-2 EFL Cup final loss to United.

'My biggest job now is to prepare the team for the difficulty of the calendar,' said Puel.

'We will play two games in a month after playing every three days since the beginning of the season.

'It's crazy - crazy for us and difficult. It's difficult to keep good focus and concentration with a game every two weeks.

'That's why this game is so important for us, and for the table.

'You saw when we couldn't play against Arsenal we lost two places in the table.

'After Watford we cannot play against Manchester United, and everyone else gets to play.

'We've got to play against teams who play one game a week.

'All these are difficulties, they are good challenges, and we have to adapt to these conditions of the calendar.'

Puel admitted Saints' two-week break ahead of the cup final provided a boost as he could organise a training camp in Spain.

But the former Nice boss insisted he cannot pull the same trick again, as he battles to keep all his players match fit.

'It is difficult. When we have had two weeks before the final it was a good thing because we had played every three days since the beginning of the season,' said Puel.

'I could give the players four days off, for the first time this season, and that was fantastic for the staff and the recovery of the players.

'We went on a training camp in Spain and it was fantastic work.

'I said congratulations to all the club staff around the team and for the players also, because they all do fantastic, professional work to prepare for this game and to put the players in the best condition.

'Now it's different. Two weeks is dangerous because to keep good concentration and focus on the training sessions, the good intensity is very difficult.

'We must keep all the attention of the players. We can train but a training session is not an official game. This is difficult.

'We played every three days for Christmas, five days and three games was crazy. Just us.

'Now two weeks every time to prepare for a game is very difficult.

'It is a real challenge for the next game to find a good result in this condition.'

One of the games has been completed now. I wonder how much UEFA's fine will be. After all people would have watched that 0-0 instead of the Barcelona comeback. So obviously a fine is needed, as if fans are faced with a similar choice again, they are going to pick the league game. They won't chose the CL game as they don't want to risk making the same mistake again.

Apparently there's no fine as somehow Man.City got this game played with UEFA's blessing. They were in talks for weeks about when to play it and UEFA seemed to agree that a CL clash was unavoidable.

Which is odd as City might get knocked out of the FA Cup to Boro and then would have had only 2 games to rearrange - Man.Utd and Stoke - and could have played them on the free midweek dates, April 26th and May 17th.

So the first rearranged game has now been played.

Apparently we have to wait until the end of March to hear when the others will take place.

So it is a selective rule. Some teams can't play even if their game isn't on tv. Other teams can, and be shown on tv. Conspiracy theorists will say UEFA fixed the result for Barcelona winning, so in any situation like hat again people who picked the non UEFA game, will decide on the UEFA game as they won't want to risk making the same mistake again.

So, as expected, the Arsenal v Sunderland and Man.City v West Brom games are now going to need rescheduling.

But Middlesbrough's game at Bournemouth has been rescued.

Today Leicester will learn whether both their games against North London opposition will need to be moved, or just the Arsenal one.

Another game for Southampton to try and fit in, that's three now. European clash looks likely again. Either against Arsenal or Chelsea, as Man Utd are still in Europe.

So now we know all the games that have to be rearranged.

There are 12 in total, but as Man.City v Stoke has already been played, that leaves 11 games needing new dates...

    Chelsea v Southampton Apr 22nd FA Cup S/F ?
    Leicester v Tottenham Apr 22nd FA Cup S/F ?
    Man.City v West Brom Apr 22nd FA Cup S/F ?

There are 2 free midweeks to play these games - so most of these games will be played on those dates, without any problems.

The only teams that have 3 games to fit in are Arsenal and Southampton - and as one of the games is against each other, it makes sense for the Southampton v Arsenal game to be played on a UEFA night.

So I expect the rearranged dates will look something like this...

    APRIL 25th/26th
    Man.City v Man.Utd
    Crystal Palace v Tottenham
    Middlesbrough v Sunderland
    Arsenal v Leicester
    Chelsea v Southampton

    MAY 16th/17th
    Chelsea v Watford
    Southampton v Man.Utd
    Arsenal v Sunderland
    Leicester v Tottenham
    Man.City v West Brom

    Southampton v Arsenal - APR 12th ?

April 11th/12th would be the midweek of the CL Quarter finals 1st leg, so might be the best date for this game. If they wait until the 2nd leg on the 18th/19th, that's just a few days before Arsenal's FA Cup semi with Man.City.

If they wait any later, they'll have to clash with a CL semi final - which UEFA would be even less happy about.

So it seems that the Man.City v Man.Utd game is to be played on a Thursday night - April 27th.

I won't update the table yet, until it's confirmed.

If it's true, it's quite incredible - Man.City have been completely stitched up.

Obviously that's good news for us, but it means Man.City will have that game on the Thursday night and then another game at Middlesbrough on Saturday at 3pm.

Man.Utd don't play again until the Sunday, at home to Swansea.

Both teams are playing the previous Sunday, so why can't they play on the Weds, like normal?

It seems that because Mourinho has been moaning about fixtures, they've let Utd play Sun - Thurs - Sun, even though that means City have to play Sun - Thurs - Sat.

It's bizarre, but great news for us. We know how poor we were against Sunderland when we had to play in the North East less than 48 hours after a big game against a Manchester side.

Man City v Man Utd rescheduled for a Thursday night amid fixture chaos

The Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium has been rearranged for a Thursday evening, according to reports.

Man City will host Manchester United on April 27 after the original fixture was delayed due to United’s participation in the EFL Cup final.

The decision comes amid Jose Mourinho’s persistent complaints about his side’s fixture congestion. Both teams will be playing on the Sunday prior – Man City against Arsenal in the FA Cup at 3pm and Manchester United away at Burnley at 2.15pm.

While City have a quick turnaround afterwards with a trip to Middlesbrough on the Saturday at 3pm, Manchester United have an additional day, playing Swansea at Old Trafford on Sunday at 12pm.

Premier League fixtures are rarely scheduled for a Thursday night, which would appear to suggest the decision has been taken to aid the sides as much as possible in terms of recuperation.

Mourinho stated on Thursday that his side have many ‘enemies’ and before that that those who decide the fixtures ‘don’t give an S’ about his side.

Now I'm seeing that the Boro v City game is likely to be put back a day to the Sunday to accommodate this.

    Is this strictly necessary?

What's wrong with just playing the game on a Weds night?

It's perfectly normal to have a Weds night game, inbetween a Sunday game and a Saturday one.

But this is Mourinho moaning, so the PL have taken the unusual step of allowing 4 days recovery from a Sunday game, playing on a Thurs night, and moving Saturday fixtures back a day.

Why doesn't anyone else get this treatment?

So what's the logic they will come out with as to why Man City's non televised game in the North East can be moved back a day due to a televised home game two days before. Yet our non televised game in the North East was not allowed to be moved back a day due to a televised home game two days before.

It would been interesting if they had not changed Man City's game in the North East, as Mourinho has been moaning all week how they have a Sunday 12pm game after a Thursday home game, now they have a Sunday 12pm game after a Thursday game, ok it's away but a short distance. You can just have seen him have the audacity to moan they have to play Sunday 12pm after the Thursday game, even though Man City would have had to play a day earlier after the same game, but then he would do some distracting quote like Judas is Number 1 to take away them pointing that out. Just like Judas is Number 1 was mentioned more on Tuesday morning then their three trophy hopes over and how he got knocked out to his former club. Any reference to the result was more about Chelsea winning then Man Utd losing, which it wouldn't have been had he not done Judas is Number 1 or said they had Europe and Chelsea didn't and before was pointed out that was largely due to their league position under him, he points out he left them in the CL with home leg second and they could have got Europe if they simply won the CL.

I don't know - they'd probably say it's something to do with Christmas - and it's traditional to try and injure your players with short recovery times at that lovely, festive time of year.

Mourinho isn't happy unless he's whinging. It's become so boring.

We've got a Weds game against Bournemouth coming up - and it's only 4 days after the Derby game, which is bound to be a bruising encounter. So I think the PL should allow us to play that game on the Thursday night instead. And then obviously move the Stoke game back to the Sunday. Do you think they'd allow us to do that?

It's not even whining most of the time, it's a tactic he uses after a poor result, a player ban/player escapes deserved ban or off the field issues. He does it, so that is the talking point more then the result or player issues. If they lose to Man City he will say something like I wish to congratulate them, but it won't be on the result it will be on getting the game at Middlesbrough moved when they couldn't and Middlesbrough will be lucky to get a draw now and moving it could relegate them.

No, because they like inconsistency such as moving Burnley's game at Tottenham back a day as you can't play at Tottenham three days after West Ham, but you can play at West Ham three days after Tottenham as Hull had to over the same three day period it was impossible for Burnley to do.

Actually, that's a point. Palace are playing on Sunday April 23rd - then Weds 26th and then Sat 29th.

Meanwhile, fellow strugglers Middlesbrough, are playing on Sat April 22nd - Weds 26th and now don't have to play until Sun 30th. So Boro get 8 days to play those 3 games, compared to Palace's 6. I bet the PL didn't consider that when they were bending over backwards to please Mourinho.

Don't get me started on that Burnley fiasco...

It's weird the way they've chosen to put Chelsea on the monday night, as a midweek game.

It means that the Everton Watford game now has to be played on the previous Friday night, to allow Watford to play again on Monday.

And it's pretty unlikely that the Utd and Spurs games will have much significance by then. They obviously have a few live games left over and feel the need to use them up.
