Beyond the poor tackles, don't get the hype about this lad. Terrible yesterday and is bang average at best everytime I watch him. Yet he is linked with big money moves, he's at the age now where he is not a youngster and he's not producing anything of note.

    Am I missing something?

He was quite excellent last season. The problem is he hasn't kept that up in a better Everton team and being a year older.

    Still a fine player IMO.

No. He's overrated. Never progressed further than "potential". A rich man's Ibe.

    You're not.

He epitomizes Everton in every aspect. If he was to fulfill his potential, he should've moved early like Rooney.

Yeah, I like Barkley. Seems to have stalled a bit at Everton now though.

Think a move could do him good. Only has 12 months on his contract at the end of the season, I think.

Was he? Everton were dog crap last season and didn't see him making much of an impact.

He was. I'm not sure what impact you wanted him to make, but he produced 12 goals and 11 assists as an attacking midfielder.

Did he? Didn't realise that to be fair. He's not shown the kind of consistency to justify the hype around him for me, he looks a bit of a brainless player.

He was really good a few years ago but he hasn't really kicked on at all.

I do wonder whether a move would benefit him but then again, who would he move to?

If he plays like he did yesterday someone like Dag and Red or Alloa

As was said after the game yesterday, true top players influence games on their own, like Gerrard did. Barkley has never done that and never will.

He is a 'good' player but not a top player.

    Hate aside
I think he's (potentially) the closest you can get to Gerrard
Great engine..excellent build, good control, shoots and passes well with both feet

Whether or not he gets there... I hope he doesn't do a "Rooney" and excells at Manure

If he wasn't a bitter..I'd be all for bidding for him

He's not a top player. We're not talking about Robben in his prime here.

I see more of Gerrard in Delle Alli tbh.

Barkley is the next Rodwell and will go the same way.

Rodwell never had anything resembling a good season.

Outside of the very poor tackles, he did start to make a few things happen for Everton yesterday. Has been very good for them in recent months. The problem he has had is the weight of expectation, comparing him to the next Rooney, Gasgoine, Gerrard.

Still young, with a lot of potential.

The closest player to Stevie G in the Premier League right now is Marko Grujic.

    Wait and see.

Really? I seem to remember him being the next big English player to make it big time. He had awful injury problems too which Barkley hasn't had to endure, yet. My comment was related to the eternal 'potential' label.

There's a very good player in there.

Would never happen, but I think he'd flourish here.

    Decent player. That's it.

Problem with English talent is we over hype them.

He was considered to be the next Gerrard.. At his age, Gerrard was a CL winner and captain of his club.. and an England regular.

Barkley is just another average English footballer.

I think we'd flourish too, especially Emre, Lovren and Hendo as they'd have a great deal of fun smashing him about in training.

    Absolute coward and scumbag.

Rodwell is so rubbish it's funny. He is somehow Sunderland's worst midfielder.

Coward is a strong word...but you'd respect his "passion" if he was smashing into players, rather than leaving his foot in to do damage.

There's a few in the Everton squad like that.

    Steven Gerrard wannabe.

When he actually tried to play football yesterday he had a decent spell 2nd half, mostly thuggish and average overall.
