Jari Litmanen what a great player he was, never really understood why his stint was so short with us

Was indeed a clss act. From memory I think he became quite injury prone, which possibly had something to do with Barca being happy to let him come here?

Its a topic I thought had been done to death although not seen anything for a long while. Maybe time for a reassessment of what went on back then with Jari sometime the future.

Someone mentioned on here ages ago Bobby reminded them of Jari I agreed and now I see bits of Litmanen everytime Bobby plays for us.

We made a couple of poor decisions in regards to strikers in those days.

In the space of about 18 months we let Fowler, Litmanen and Anelka go. Kept Heskey, then signed Diouf and Baros!

Those decisions cost Gerard in the end.

I was always fearful Auba would end up at Arsenal and smash it - thankfully so far hasn't happened

something nags me as to why one of the big boys hasn't gone for him yet

Does he not want to leave?
Do the big boys know something about him that puts them off?

Real Madrid will be one to watch this summer, as they are going to be ********** at whats happening to them - they are going to sign an elite striker this summer - could it be him?

And Klopp will know him better than most and he's been pretty much silent on him

Unless Auba is the 'mystery signing'???

I thinks its just a simple case of him wanting madrid but madrid have Ronaldo is the focal point and taking up all the wages. Barca have Suarez, Bayern have Lewa. So he is bidding his time until one of the big boys come in

I thought there were new tax laws in China that stopped football clubs from paying ludicrous wages?

He was a hero in the end to be fair.

I was annoyed he went to Villa. I get it though as Cisse had to be given a go as he was expensive and had been injured the previous season. Also, Morientes was relatively new so he was going to be favoured more. Furthermore, Crouch was necessary as we needed a target man to bring the best out of Gerrard in the away PL games.

Just another example of Rafa being a bit ruthless.

Litmanen was coming to the end of his career but he could have had one more season

The Diouf over Anelka decision was just the worst

That cost GH his job. He tried to be clever and it bit him in the arse.

Looks like Arsenal are in for him now as a Sanchez replacement.

I'm sure if Klopp wanted him he could get him. Appears he doesn't.

    Re Aubameyang

    He trained today with Dortmund.

But my normally reliable source in Germany tells me:

“Yes! I think he will join the Gunners”
You have to wonder why Klopp isn’t all over this signing seeing as he knows him so well. But then that makes me think it must be an attitude thing with Auba

If that’s the case though he will run riot through Arsenal as there is absolutely no discipline or leadership in that team at all.

Great player. Under used by Houllier.

Oh..and by the way. We dont need anymore attacking players right now. A GK would be good.

We literally just sold our best attacker.

And? Based on yesterday and most game this season we don’t need to supplement the attack, what we have will do fine, we need more help at the other end.

If we replaced Coutinho with another defender or a defensive minded midfielder it could actually balance out the squad a bit more.

Balance may be better than a like for like in terms of role

That's because most of the season we had a £142 million attacking midfielder.
