CAN YOU BEAT LAWRO - THE RETURN!

    THE NEW METHOD:

    Short version:

    (1) Someone posts the next week's fixtures
    (2) Everyone posts their predictions for those fixtures
    (3) After the game, everyone calculates their own score, and posts their name & score for that week & total score so far
    (4) Anyone who wants to check up on other people's calculations, feel free
    (5) If you are caught cheating (or making maths mistakes), you lose 1 point the first time, 2 the second time, 3 the third time
    (6) Anyone who wants to post a league table after everyone has posted their score, feel free

I do have the results from last season to post. As we know, it came down to a straight head-to-head between one of you plucky individuals, and the evil Lawro. You can look out for those in the next week or two when I'm not traveling.

Since I will be traveling a lot this year, but I don't want the game to die, I've come up with a new way for us to keep it going. Think of it as the Socialist way of running the game (lol) where everyone does a tiny bit of work instead of one person doing all the work.

I'm sure there are a few of you that would like to run the thing yourself, but take my word for it - it's better this way. Once you get behind and it piles up... it's a nightmare, and no fun to run, and no fun to play when you're not getting any updates. You may think you can do it, but this new idea will work better, if it works at all. Lol.

Those of you who really want to be involved in running it can be the "Oversight Committee", and make sure that nobody is cheating the system and randomly check up on people, like PED testers after sports games. You can also help tabulate the leaderboards anytime you want to.

So without further ado, this is how it will work:

    (1) Anytime after the first round of Premier League Fixtures are completed, someone will post the next round of fixtures, with or without their own score predictions is fine.

    (2) Everyone who is playing, or wants to play, will then post their predictions for the same fixtures, which must be posted before kick off time in the first fixture. If you post them late, you must not include any score prediction for any game that has already finished, or started. Don't even include it in your post at all, to avoid confusion.

    (3) Add up your own score - ONE point for the right outcome (home win, draw, away win), and TWO bonus points if you got the right score. Add it to your overall tally, then post it in the format below.

    (4) You may post other people's scores for them if you really want to, preferably after a few days if they haven't done it themselves. You may check up on other people's calculations.

    (5) If you are caught cheating (giving extra points to yourself, or giving less points to someone else), EVEN IF it is an accident, you lose 1 point off your own score. If it happens a second time, you lose 2 points. And so on. So make sure you're adding things up right... your points depend on it! However, if you discover you have made a mistake, and nobody has noticed yet, it's okay to fix it before anyone notices. No points deduction unless someone else catches you.

Also, bear in mind, if you are caught giving yourself LESS points than you should have, there is no penalty, because you did not benefit. You still get the correct points once you or someone else figures it out. However, if you are caught giving someone other than yourself MORE (or less) points, you will receive a penalty, because you are benefiting or harming someone else's prospects unfairly.

    (6) You may post an overall league table if you wish (no more than one per week please, and try and wait until all the scores have been calculated).

HOW TO POST YOUR SCORE AFTER THE GAMES ARE FINISHED EACH WEEK

Post your score in this format:

    1. TheSoundLady - 7 - 44

That means 1. I am the first person to post their score this week. TheSoundLady is my username. 7 is my score for this week. 44 is my total score so far.

Then the next person, let's say Canners, posts in this format

    1. TheSoundLady - 7 - 44
    2. Canners - 9 - 51

Notice, it's very important to copy the data from the post before yours, so that all the scores for the week, and total scores, are kept together.

Then the next person, brontus, posts in this format.

    1. TheSoundLady - 7 - 44
    2. Canners - 9 - 51
    3. brontus - 14 - 50

And so on. If somebody hasn't posted their score yet and you want to help them out, feel free to calculate their score for them, and add it to the list. You are also allowed to calculate multiple scores for multiple people at once, but be warned - even if you are calculating someone else's score: if you get it wrong, and are caught, you lose a point from your own score. The second time you do it, you lose 2 points. And so on.

Note: When there are extra games (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4 random games on midweek days to make up for canceled fixtures) they should be added to the previous week's predictions and score. So if there are 10 games Sat-Mon, and then 2 make up games on Tue and Wed, you should always predict the full 12 games ahead of time. Makes it much easier for calculations. It's important that everyone is predicting the same fixture sets.

Let's see how it works out before we stick with it as the permanent method. Give it a chance, once you get the hang of it, it should work well. These games usually die out eventually because of the work involved for 1 or 2 people. This way, we all share the work.

With this method, we can do as many competitions as you want... my suggestion would be that we have a separate thread for each competition you want to to predictions for, so nobody gets confused. Or at least a "Domestic Cups" prediction thread, and a "European Cups" prediction thread.

You guys can let me know what you think of those alternative thread ideas, and I'll start them if they are wanted.

Also, I'll work on updating the hall of fame and that way it'll always be here for people to add themselves to it when they win things.

Any questions about the new method, please let me know. I'll keep a close eye on it to make sure it's working and we're all doing it correctly.

Without further ado, please get these in.

Remember to calculate and post your own scores in this format:

    1. TheSoundLady - 7 - 44
    2. Canners - 9 - 51
    3. brontus - 14 - 50

    After the week is over.

So if you see that list is posted, and your name is BigTom, you calculate your score for the week, let's say 8 points, and you've scored 30 in previous weeks, so then you post this:

    1. TheSoundLady - 7 - 44
    2. Canners - 9 - 51
    3. brontus - 14 - 50
    4. BigTom - 8 - 38

And so on. Always include the scores of the players that already posted, and add yourself to that list.

Nice one TSL - this sounds like a good idea, I can only imagine how much of a ball ache it must have been doing it all yourself.

As a suggestion though - when users publish their scores, together with the previous scores, rather than adding themselves to the bottom they should put themselves in points order.

So in your example, you post your score of 44, then Canners posts his 51 above yours, then Brontus puts his 50 in between...etc.

That way a proper league table emerges without further intervention.

1 for the right result, another 2 if you get the correct score.

    I see. So if I pick 1-0 and it ends 2-0 I get a point. If I pick the 2-0 I get 3. Right?

Stuzzza that's an excellent idea let's do it like that.

And if somebody doesn't feel like putting it in League table order then it's okay to just add your name to the bottom. The next person or the next person will sort out the order.

Tell your friends on the Forum about this game so we can get a decent amount of players this year.

And I asked for the thread to be sticky at the top (as usual) but I don't think anyone saw the request, so if any of you wants to help out, see if you can get this thread stickied as usual. It gets more interest that way and people are less likely to forget each week. Plus it's been sticky for 6 years so why stop now, lol.

Great to see this back again, lets hope we can all work together with the new format as TSL has slaved at it for the past couple of seasons.
