Everyone knows it happens covertly. Yet it seems speaking openly about your pursuit of another clubs player in public is o.k.

That's what i mean. The FA can just get in touch with a manager who's overstepping the line… 'pull yer head in, mate.'

That is like tapping up mate - for all those that try to do good - there are those that work in the shadows, that thrive on chaos

Ok, maybe. And maybe they've done so, but I doubt it.

I just don't think they're that bothered, it's between the clubs. It's rules of engagement, not law. If Real don't like it, they'll say.

The National League has extended the play offs to 7th place. One up automatically and the next six play off.
2nd and 3rd go into the semi finals - 4th to 7th play off to meet them.
If you judge this on last season - Tranmere were 2nd on 95 points and Barrow, seventh on 75 points. Quite ridiculous situation! It's supposed to be a league for god's sake!
This is clearly all about money - as usual!
    Your thoughts?

The BBC reflecting on 25 years of the Premier League post some interesting numbers:
    Average attendance in 92/93 - 21,130
    Average attendance in 16/17 - 35,805

An increase of almost 70%. I know quite a few grounds have expanded, and some new ones built, but that looks like we must have been quite a bit short of capacity back then.

Robert has pressing plumbing problems to process properly prior to perusing perplexing points provided by poster Pablo.

    Perhaps.

Not really, I can imagine Sky would like us to think its all down to them but for me the biggest changes started to come with the decrease of hooliganism [not sure when you went to NZ] and the introduction of all seater stadia.

you are right you can only be 'boring' as you probably would say I was some people say that gardening is boring yet they find freedom in it, you just have to look closely enough

I know it would suck if we were all boring but you have to ask what you want from what your posts

Hadn't that come in a little earlier? The 70's and 80's were lively, but most of the hooligan elements had been stamped out by 92/3 hadn't they? And surely making stadiums all-seater reduced capacity?

I don't know, I've not looked at the detail - maybe it just happened to be a season that had a lot of teams with small grounds and they were closer to capacity than it appears. It seems like the increase really happened in the first 10 years and has remained fairly steady around the 35k mark since then.

Whether it's anything to do with Sky or not I don't know - but certainly having so much televised football, and moving kick offs all over the place at the whim of broadcasters, and increasing prices way beyond inflation, hasn't done anything to reduce live attendances. Quite the opposite.

Certainly weird to me, Dave. We came to NZ in 69, so all my memories of Anfield and Goodison are of everyone packed in like sardines!

Based on the football forums, football shows on radio/tv, chatting to other fans, it seems that City fans are very excited about the season, United fans also, but somewhat tempered by their continued dull style

Other than that though there doesn't seem to be the usual euphoria about the season - Arsenal fans, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, Southampton all seem to be a little disillusioned, for obvious reasons

We're only 2 days away for crying out loud!

Yes all seaters reduced capacity but attendance increased and continued to increase, grounds at times where half full anyway so reducing capacity mattered little, and these increases did not happen overnight, it increased slowly as it became known to be safer till it is what it is now, and if you look now look at the amount of women and children that go to the match, you never had that years ago.
