It’s getting to the point where you can’t say anything without offending.

Like he literally meant the referee should be shot ffs.

I know what you mean, but…

They might well think that some nut fanatic supporter will take that as a directive, and act upon it. That's the fear these days, as well as being 'PC'… no doubt someone somewhere added the comment 'what sort of message are we sending to our young people?' etc etc.

I’d say there are more pressing problems to sort out if someone is sitting around with a gun ready to take orders from football managers on who to shoot. If we have to censor the managers for it not to happen, we can probably just pack it all in.

When did the idea that everyone has a right not to be offended take hold? It's so wrong imo - we should be going the other way and protecting people's rights to cause offence.

    Couldn’t agree more, Stuz.

I think it took hold as a result of the self esteem movement of the 80s, when everybody’s feelings became the most important thing to protect, so whole generations failed to emotionally develop past the schoolyard where name calling is serious business. That lot are now in charge.

But it’s creeping into football now by the day, it really is a mess.

Not arguing with you at all. It's just the 'correct' way the world seems to be at the moment… 'Oooooh dear, you can't say that'

Managers used to say before a game (well, Rugby League ones anyway) 'We'll murder them!' 'We'll knock 'em dead' and so on.

And how many mums have said to an unruly kid 'I'll swing fer you, one o' these days!!!'

Mine did… plus 'Come 'ere till I batter yer.'

Our old friend Mario got both of Nice's goals in a 2-2 with Monaco. That's 18 for the season for him.

Has he finally settled down? - mentally and 'footbally' ?

I seem to remember talk somewhat recently saying Nice weren’t going to be renewing his contract? Hopefully he’s finally found somewhere he can play well and stick around for a while, it’s hard not to wish him well.

The whole thing with 'Balotelli and LFC' was just like some elaborate and frustrating practical joke.… but I agree, it'd be great if he could settle properly.

It was, but what a story it could’ve been!

I reckon a strikers' time at a club gets defined pretty early, sometimes on the first day. If you look at that window, Lambert missed a penalty facing the Kop in preseason, and he just never missed penalties. I don’t think he ever recovered from that. Mario had a very good header chance vs Spurs in his first game that he missed, and I often wondered if it would’ve been different for him had it gone in.

I remember Suarez'seses first goal that crept over line off the post, it was an easy enough chance I seem to remember, but really should’ve never gone in either. Obviously he’d have been brilliant regardless, and only really started scoring after a while anyway, and the other two probably had no chance, but it’s funny thinking about it in this context.
