The seventh incarnation of the Random Thought thread has crashed and burnt.

But the phoenix rises yet again. We start afresh!

The new season is almost upon us, and we're still in flux re our signings.

Rumours, murmurs and whispers and Random Thoughts…

My Random Thought for the day is that we are not at the level we need to be, as we approach this new season.

Nothing's really settled down regarding a good midfield and a strong defence.

    Good man Dave.

I was going to ask whether anyone thought Mourinho's public comments regarding Gareth Bale could be deemed to be tapping up?

And is tapping up only acted upon if one club reports another to their relevant F.A?

Any FA would take action of their own accord, i should think, rather than wait for any formal complaint. They're there to oversee, after all.

But Mourinho's spouts are weird at the best of times, wouldn't you say?

Tapping up - happens, is happening and will always happen.....

For me - its like the do gooders/PC brigade lifestyle and moral indignation - some cry wolf louder than others

Yeah. We've got some more blokes in who can go lively in the top third, fair enough.

But midfield and defence are essentially little better than the end of last season.

We're a jigsaw side.… some pieces fit fine, some pieces we've altered to make them fit, some pieces don't belong at all, and some pieces are missing altogether.

Yeah they are, but he's publicly courting a player from another club that haven't made it apparent that he's for sale. Surely that's tapping up.

It would probably come down how the rules of conduct are… is innuendo sufficient to draw an FA reprimand, or is it based on the use of 'certain terms.'

Of course you're right Ron but seeing as we had to apologise for fear of punishment how can Mourinho do it publicly when he chooses.

Maybe so Dave but it isn't merely innuendo with Mourinho.

It's facial expression too, with him. Mind you, it's either doleful or sneering.

But then… he's the manager of the media's Favourite Football Club.

Well we know that Man Utd are the darlings of the English and European FA

and that we are despised in those same circles

Ever since Busby, the manager of Man U has an exclusive licence to get away with all manner of nonsense.

You think? They can't be wasting their time chasing up/investigating any and all incidences of possible tapping up - it'd be all they ever did. It goes on all the time, largely accepted by all parties.

There's some areas where they need to be proactively policing, but stuff like this I'm sure they're more than happy to stay clear unless someone complains.

What about a complaint signed by 1000's of concerned supporters worried about the image of the beautiful game?

Comments might well be made behind the scenes, so to speak. Just a quiet word - or tap on the shoulder - from one of the suits in the FA. Nothing in the media, just a 'bit close to the line, that' warning.

'Action' doesn't necessarily mean a punitive fine, public warning or whatever.
