Now that our defence is fragile. And we didn't do anything about it.

How about Milner going in defence instead as central defender. He has the experience of defence, he has the strenght, the fighting spirit.
Like Klopp and the other says: He's like Robocop. Strong as hell.

    Much better opportunity then Klavan...

Think he could make a great CB, a lot of more experience player play lower back when they getting more experience as well.

Milner is a beast in that mood, and guy also can LEAD the defence, one of few that actually talking on the pitch.

TBH almost anyone would be an upgrade on Lovren.

    But maybe not Milner

A couple of years ago we were having defensive problems, I think it was Skrtel/Lovren at the time, and we went to a back 3 of those two with Can in between them.
It seemed to work quite well with Can acting as a stabilizing influence, then it got scrapped.
It might have been under Rodgers.

Would be better to play Hendo as CB and have Milner stay on the bench in all fairness.

    lol

Milner for Striker! He scored almost double digits last season, experienced, cool head, and we're not getting it done now!

Also, MIlner should defo play CM, controls the game, won a PL medal, experienced!

Can't ignore our weakness at RB too. We should play Milner there. Was playing as a fullback in the season we got back into the CL, experience, and has a right foot.

Don't sit on Milner starting at GK. Can kick the ball, most likely has 2 hands, experience!

While I would certainly have him playing RB over Gomez or TAA in important matches while Clyne is out, or LB over clownshowreno, this idea is just daft.

Might as well, spends more time standing between the CB's dilly dallying with stupid pointless passes back and forth between them than he does in midfield.

2? Did they play one of the League Cup matches last January? I thought Matip missed those due to injury...

this lovren and matip = low losses talk needs to stop. the partnership is not strong and never has been.

both are capable of mistakes lovren is almost definite he will every game,

the only reason why we have lost so few was because our free scoring attack was bailing them out time and time again. teams know how to play against us alot better now

the lovren matip pairing is dry - that axis is shipping one stupid goal after another.

if one or both are not replaced forget about challenging for anything.

We seem to get better results when Milner is playing.

Agree, although this kind of stat usually needs a bit more context.

    THIS THIS THIS.

Matip is a great 3rd choice CB but only going to be truly useful to our first team alongside a great leader (Lovren isn't that).

More and more that VVD situation has come back to haunt us.

You can say they've only lost twice - OK great. But we are trying to win trophies. We need to turn those draws into wins, and their mistakes (e.g vs Newcastle) are directly compromising our chances.

If we're going to look at turning any of our CM into CB I think Grujic at 6ft 6" would probably have more chance of making an impact, for sure the boy can get his head on the ball and he does love to tackle ! Not saying it would work, but deffo makes more sense than Milner.

Anyone suggesting that we play players out of position has already missed the point of what a club like Liverpool should be.

I'm intrigued to hear of three examples when something identical to this has happened before, and been successful?

You may want to wander over to a stats page and read up on them...

Last season Matip+Lovren played 18 league matches and allowed 12 goals, the cup game they lost? 0-1. Their w/d/l record is more "despite" the attack than because of it-Burnley 1-1, vaunted attack much? Spartak 1-1, attack again? Newcastle 1-1, noticing a theme here? If I'm not mistaken, the Watford game is the only time they've allowed 3 as a partnership and 2 of the 3 in that match were due to failures on defense by attackers/midfielders and the 3rd was mostly poor defending by the FBs.

    That desperate are we?

Maybe it was a mistake letting Lucas go.
