Just saw an article about Babel, and it got me thinking.

Which liverpool players had the biggest gap between their innate ability/potential and what they delivered for us.

Babel is surely up there; Collymore might be the biggest.

On the flip side of players who actually delivered more than their potential, I think you gotta hand it to Carra. I'm not sure anyone saw how good he would get after his first couple of years with us

    The other one is Suso.

Kewell was a much better player than I think we ever saw, Keane too. Morientes was very underwhelming here based on what he'd done elsewhere. Aquilani looked a great prospect at Roma and never did anything of note for us. Aspas is excellent whenever I see him for Celta, yet was basically a joke here. Joe Cole was a disaster for us despite being a good player for Chelsea. Just a few off the top of my head.

Never quite warmed to Kewell, Robbie and Cole tbf. But Morientes and Aquilani made me excited at that time.

Aspas is someone unkown to me before he came. That corner will forever be remembered for the wrong reason 😅

This is a vast list -

If you go back to the Souness era

Clough - Dicks - Stewart and James........ all left us puzzled most of the time......

Kewell for Houllier plus most of his french buys

Morientes - Benayoun - Voronin - Babel - Keane - Riera - Aquilani - Jovanovic all let Rafa down

Need to cough when we look at Hodgsons let downs - Konchesky - Cole - Poulsen

Kenny had problems with Carroll - Downing and Adam not turning up often enough

And no list like this is complete without Balotelli

How did Jovanovic let Rafa down when it was Hodgson that signed him?

Benayoun was a good player for us, and Konchesky was always ****, there was no surprise or untapped potential we missed out on.

I think Julian dicks lived up to and reached his potential, unfortunately.

Yossi Benayoun is the only Liverpool player to score hat-tricks in the four competitions he played in. He scored hat-tricks in the league, FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup.

Rafa put together the pre-contract agreement but he was signed under the tenure of Roy Hodgson.

If anything Id have Benayoun as the opposite of what the thread is about, he was a very valuable player, we let him go far too early too.

No doubt Ron just saw it as another chance to say everything's *****.

Garcia too. Though he can be frustrating at times.

He was a match winner as well, he was a lot like Lallana, very similar.

Garcia was a real hair puller. He could do the sublime by times, some of his goals were breathtaking particularly his goals against Juventus in the CL in 2005 and Chelsea in the FA Cup semi final in 2006.

Like Lallana he was two footed. Very under-rated player in my opinion.

Deffo, he always did something positive with the ball too. And was a very effective sub too. I thought it was a terrible decision to let him go. Meireles too I thought we let go too soon. Both to Chelsea too, which really should’ve been a giveaway that they were still very good.

Wrong as usual - there is no other team but we are not at the height of our powers.....

You maybe entertained, but there are no trophies....

Hence we are not good enough

I am sorry you and your gang can't see that

More 'snakes and ladders with Ron'?

Nobody is saying we’re good enough, why do you keep arguing with that phantom?

Similar to how nobody thought that Konchesky had any potential at all. Except you seeing as you mentioned him in this thread?

To his credit, he didn't just reel off the entire squad list from the past 30 years which is half what I expected him to do.

True enough. But I’d wager that he looked up the squads in recent years and just picked all the ***** players, or at best, the disappointments.

Agree good player who was getting better and better then pretty much out of the blue he was gone.

Think a player we never saw the best of was Nuri Sahin.
