I think to talk about people going to Eton and not being poor ... is really toning down the significance. It certainly is where some of the 1% or less go to.

I didn't say people, I was talking about Johnson. I thought that was clear.

He certainly didn't come from a poor one. Side note his 'real' surname is Kemal (his paternal great grandfather is of Turkish descent) but his grandfather (Osman Kemal) took the surname of his maternal grandmother (Johnson) as she brought him up. So really his name should be Boris Kemal.

I know about his heritage, I don't think he has made a secret of it. But it is quite distant, and does not necessarily equate to his wealth. He strikes me as the sort of person who would be a **** whatever situation he were born in.

As for 'should be' - in the UK you can take either mother or father's surname (as can husband or wife). And add that the mother brought the boy up, it is fair enough he took the name he did. Non story.

Cause you say so? Any source?

Do you even dispute he went to Eton on scholarship to get most of his fees paid?

The largest period of mass immigration, not taking into account colonial times, was probably between late 1800s up to the great depression. There was sharp decline in Immigration between WW2 and 1990s when we once again saw an uptick. The reason for this is birth rates.

The rate of births in America reached such a high level after WW2 that taking in immigrants was economically unnecessary. Since the 90s though, the birth rate in America has been declining steadily. Meanwhile, baby boomers are retiring. The consequence is that immigration will go up. It has to. When this happens, the native born population starts to feel uncomfortable. People who were around in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, when immigrants made up less than 6% of the population, feel like suddenly everyone is a foreigner because the percentage of immigrants in America is now probably closer to 12 or 13%.

Being uncomfortable with this situation is somewhat understandable. How one reacts, though, defines how he will be perceived. Disregarding the socio-economic causes of immigration and blaring about damn foreigners taking over the country is a jerk thing to do, and if you get called a nazi for it, I can't really sympathize.

You can see with your own eyes that he managed to make it into the cabinet ... due to his bumbling abilities? Despite them.

Majority of countries in the world were built on some kind of immigration.

Normally when people say far left they mean left of Tony Blair...who wasn't really left at all.

they mean the far left like the people who hate our country so much they would happily invite every immigrant to come here. they hate our government, our royal family and anybody who is rich.
to such an extent that they turn up at any protest, demonstation, counter demonstration or tory pary conference and cause trouble.
the same people have threatened tory mp's, sent disgusting messages and encouraged others to cause these people harm.

Way to be myopic about it. Low natality contributing to an increase in immigration isn't only an American problem. It's a Western problem.

I wasn't implying there was anything untoward about it, just thought it was interesting, Boris Kemal doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

And he has royalty in his ancestry here and there, and his parents were very well off. He's certainly not a 'rags to riches' tale if that's what anyone was implying anyway.

You do not bother to find anything out ... you dont read the posts and reams of explanation people give ... you dont cross-check anything ... but you have the astounding ability to blow the trumpet for your "cause" whatever that is. Pot calling kettle black.

The only thing the far left like about the eu is the unlimited immigration. otherwise the eu allows a few hundred polititians to get very rich at our expense
