He was picked as Captain because he was the player in the line-up who had been at the club the longest.

    It's as simple as that.

It is usually the case if captain and vice captain are absent...hence Lucas getting it at times in cup games.

It's not down to you that you think the sun shines out of Mignolet's back side? Ok, then.

Mignolet telling the media Liverpool can catch Manchester city its a shame he can not learn how to catch a ball.

Lucas got it coz he was Captain material, nothing to do with length of service. He was a Leader of Men.

Migs possibly got it to give him some confidence as Klopp needs to get the most out of him, without much choice

Really neither here nor there why Lucas was captain any more than it is for Mignolet being third choice, if ST thinks it somehow shows how good Mignolet is then he's deluded about that too.

Mignolet is currently Klopp's pick as league keeper, rightly or wrongly, due to his inability to adapt or something else, only Klopp knows. It's not as if Klopp is right on everything, his late substitutions make no sense, his selections re the defence don't, his decision to pay a lot for the Ox and playing second string in the FA Cup resulting in replays and little progress being a few.

So why he made Mignolet captain seems rather one of the more trivial whys as well as Lucas and anyone else. It has little to do with ability anyway so the captain needs only to be someone who is picked, and maybe have some leadership qualities but like in cricket it is an over-rated issue. It's not like fantasy cricket or football where being captain gets you double points, or I'm sure there's probably some computer game where the captain has some super power or ability eg Soccer Brawl where the player, possibly the captain can fire super shots.

Nothing particularly special about Mignolet, something very 'special' about his fanboys though

Maybe he's heard he's been dropped...........! (a bit like the ball on the rare occasion he comes to catch it)

Footballers really should just be told to not offer any opinions beyond what they need to, and certainly not daft ones. Sure we CAN catch Man City, but given they've dropped two points all season and have a 12 point head start on us, even allowing for them hitting a lean spell and us hitting some kind of form that will take some catching - especially since their goal difference is TWENTY SEVEN better than our's, something Mignolet had a hand in or no hand in whichever way you want to put it (he let in 5, might have done something about a number of those that gave then 10 of that GD lead)

It's as pointless a comment as some manager saying one of his players should play for England, or as pointless as most of Hodgson's ramblings at conferences. If he hasn't already built up every opponent and match as a mountain I'd be surprised, hardly fills a side that might not be great but is better than 4 points from 33 with confidence. Just like our bitter friends across the park, it's funny to see them there but you know they are capable of being quite a few places higher.

Everything has already been said on our current crop and nothing has changed or happened to convince us either are good enough for the no.1 spot imo.

All top teams have top GK's except for us. Surely now it's time to change that.

But will Klopp go for one?

We'd have to buy the most expensive GK in the history of football to improve upon Simon Mignolet?

Clubs know we want a top keeper. They will ask top price a bit like saints asking stupid money for that average centre back of theirs

There was a small moment in the first half yesterday where a ball was bouncing towards the goal with no real pace, so Klavan I think it was was shepherding it back. There was no real danger at all, and it was just a basic moment for a keeper to come out and get it, just as far as the penalty spot, nothing more. And, of course, Migs was just stuck back there doing the only thing that could possibly turn it into a dangerous situation, ie. not coming out to take it.

It eventually got to him and the moment passed, but it’s those little basic things that he just doesn’t do that drive me up the *********** wall, never mind the bigger messes he creates.

Saw the arsenal and spurs game today. There was a moment where cech made a wonderful one handed save (strong hands unlike migs). Cech is not what he once was but still makes some great saves. Then literally on that next break a long ball is pumped forward and I think it's sanchez who would be one on one with the keeper but lloris comes flying out about forty yards to head to safety.

Both occasions you just hope our keeper would try and do the same but you know he does not have it in him.

Yet, you choose to leave out the 2 Llloris conceded? If Migs had conceded those 2 then ALL the blame would have been laid at Migsy's feet. But Lloris is your Hero
