Agreed. If it's Mignolet, he would have let 2 or maybe 3 in.

Rather have my keeper putting pressure on the opposition than letting them have a cup of tea in the box every game (Simon).

As someone said there 5 shots 5 saves. Two of them shots could have easily been spilled into the path of a spartak player and they score. Thatís his second game in a row for me where I have thought heís done well and deserves to start in the league.

That being said, I wouldnít play him in the derby. Itís a game where mistakes can happen due to the immense pressure and 1 mistakes and thatíll be it for Karius, which is unfair considering Mignolet gets away with murder.
Yup, let Mingers have the gloves and all the blame in that one!

I can see with some (not you just to be clear) that Karius 'can't win', and Mingers can do little wrong even when he has/does. It's as if Karius has to do things twice as well as Mingers to get half the credit. Ridiculous references to Zoff and other word putting in mouths/keyboards aside.

    See the below quote.

Exactly. When he first made the decision Gomez was about 15 yards away from the attacker. If he stays and Gomez doesn't recover, it's not far off a carbon copy of the Newcastle goal where the attacker goes 1 vs 1 with acres to play with.

Those 2 moments perfectly show the difference between Mignolet and Karius - one is very averse to sweeping and the other is very pro sweeping. Both have their risks but once a player decides to come, if they don't commit to it, they are in no mans land. If Karius had more experience working with Gomez he might have known to trust him to get back - who knows.

It's risky but we need that sweeper keeper if we're to play with the high line that we do.

I wouldn't quite go that far, there was only really one that was anything other than straight at him.

The rushing out will go down as reckless, but it'll be interesting to see how the experience shapes how he will play in the future. Will he be as aggressive if he knows that he can trust Gomez to recover as well as he did?

Only game time will give us an opportunity to see that and him an opportunity to build that understanding.

Will be disappointing if we don't see him again until February.

I would have been amazed if Migs had played last night and managed to concede, but overall I think Karius is a tidier keeper, seems to have safer hands from shots, and distributes the ball that bit quicker, which I think is key to our fast attack.

Migs holds the ball up too much, he is like the Hendo of keepers. just glad he doesn't pass backwards

Yeah, absolutely no need for him to come out. This seems to be a trend in football now, lots of 'keepers come running out when there are defenders around to deal with it. Mignolet and Joe Hart did the same last week, one was punished and one got away with a certain red card. I think they are just far too eager to get involved and be the hero now. I know they are probably instructed to come out if they are needed to, but they do it anyway even when they aren't.

Anyway, apart from that, a pretty routine night with not much to do. Still think he deserves a run in the league too, though. I mean, he won't play until February now (or maybe January in the FA cup).

What are you talking about? He knew it was offside, and was rushing out there to try and take the freekick quickly to catch Spartak sleeping.

V good keeping if you ask me.

Tbh I don't know what the hell Klopp is playing at, just let Karius start.

Drop Migs, he's so hit and miss.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Karius in some league fixtures the next few weeks with the games coming fast and furious. Same as early on when he played vs Palace after Migs had 4 straight at 3-4 days separation.

I thought Mignolet saved penalties? That's 2 in 2 weeks he's let in. Straight down the middle.

    Poor.

simon swung his legs to one side though, so he was covering more of the line, it's actually hard to put a penalty completely straight down the middle.

Well he did, he went to his left when he should have stayed down the middle. Terrible 'keeping.
