To be fair, Keane has always put Liverpool up there as the milestone for greatness. He said as much in his book. He may have become a scum icon, but always had respect for the great Liverpool teams on how to be successful year after year after year.

Roy needs to focus on RoI's next two matches.

ManU isn't going to win anything either. At least we are doing this "honestly" and without bags of money behind us. And we are much better to watch than MancU.

    He's a closet Liverpool fan.

“It was tongue in cheek,” said Keane, speaking ahead of Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-off against Denmark this weekend.

“Anyone who has ever spoken to me about football will tell you the huge respect I have for Liverpool. I grew up watching them in the 80s winning leagues every year.

“My comments were tongue in cheek and hopefully people will see it that way. People should lighten up a little.”

I would think we would be one of the best teams to watch. Score 3 goals, then blow a three goal lead....as a neutral it would be great fun.

Sorry Rosso, I dont like to disagree with you on much but Keane is not your typical ex-pro. He was driven by excellence and berated those who didn’t do likewise as a result people tend to love him or hate him. He won quite a bit at united but feels no debt to them and will dish it out to them in equal measure. And I say again; he is the only man to call ferguson for what he is. For that alone he has my full respect.
“Mean herd of old shoes” - thats a new one on me Rosso!

I really dont think he has any animosity towards Liverpool, just because he played for united. He will always be a tad abrasive but he respects standards as his quote on your post shows.

no respect for an alleged pundit and former Manure captain stating that as a neutral actually he would not watch us even if we were playing in his back garden!!

we play by far a better football than United actually, it's as clear as that, our position in the table has nothing to do with the quality of football we express,

and his admission doesn't make other than stoking further controversy,

    absolutely despicable statement!

I have no doubt they are asked to do it by editorial staff. Especially for Liverpool and a few others. Keane would have known the Shanks quote no doubt.

Very true. The biggest difference between now and then was the belief we would win every game, eventually wearing down the opposition. There used to be a cliche that the Kop would suck the ball into the net when required.

Well Keano - I'd love to see you analyse one of the most turgid performances I have ever seen in Football last Saturday night. The Denmark - Ireland game was diabolical!
And you have the cheek to say you wouldn't watch Liverpool?

I suppose ‘horses for courses’ is the obvious response, or at least, as I would see it. Ireland do not have the players, nor manager, to play it any other way really. It is a fair criticism of Liverpool to say that we should be a better balanced side in terms attack and defense given our options as a Club.
Nonetheless it was a stupid comment by Keane and possibly one he regrets.

Now that's a team I wouldn't watch if they were playing in my back garden - and I'm Irish. Would love to have seen them at WC as they always seem to give a good account of themselves at tournaments (Euro 2012 aside), but let's be honest - they're torture to watch, especially during the last qualifying campaign.

Roy Keane was far from impressed by Liverpool's thumping 7-0 win against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night, as he suggested Jurgen Klopp's side have 'beaten no-one' despite a fine run of form in recent weeks.
Former Manchester United captain Keane has been scathing in his assessment of Liverpool's hopes of challenging for major trophies this season, with his comments last month suggesting he 'wouldn't watch Liverpool if they were playing in my back garden' generating plenty of debate.
He continued that dismissive tone as he reflected on Liverpool's thumping win against Spartak Moscow that paved the way for their progress to the knock-out stages of the Champions League as Group E winners.

"Clearly they’re beating these so-called lesser teams, and the same in the Premier League, but they’ve beaten nobody yet, domestically and in Europe yet," said Keane in his role as an ITV pundit.
"The big tests are yet to come for Liverpool. They are certainly in great form at the moment, but the bigger teams are still to come.

"Going forward it's lovely to watch when they play well, but they wouldn't get that time and space against the decent teams, it's as simple as that. Give quality players time on the ball and they will punish you, but they won't get that time and space against quality teams."
Liverpool have scored 43 goals in their last 11 games in all competitions, but Keane believes their defensive weakness will be exposed in the latter stage of the Champions League.

"It was a lovely night for Liverpool and you can only beat what is in front of you, but take a step back and you realise there are so many bigger tests in front of them," added Keane."Against the bigger teams, they will be tested at the back."
Liverpool boss Klopp offered a very different view of the victory against Spartak Moscow, as he dismissed the suggestion that it was an comfortable win for his team.

"No, it was not easy. It was not easy," he said. "With my assistants, I was sitting outside when it was 6-0 and we were looking at each other and thought, ‘wow, how did that happen?’
"I didn’t see a lot of teams losing 7-0, but even when it was 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0 they still played football, they still had their moments, they still had scoring situations somehow. We had to play exactly the level we played tonight to beat them and then because of the development of the game it was a high result.

"Antonio Conte (Chelsea manager) said it yesterday, there are no easy opponents in it. I don’t think anybody is happy when they get us when they get us in the draw, so we will not be happy in the moment when we see who we will face in the next round, but we will be ready – that’s for sure."

    What a typical pointless contribution.

OP why is it that you only ever appear with a badly written article based on a scum player having a pop at us???

This is not the forum you should be posting this drivel on.

Isn't there already a post match thread for this?

Hardly think Keane and his bitterness deserves a whole thread dedicated to it.

Mr fat face sat there, seething, and desperate to inject some realism into the debate, that threatened to be a love fest for the men in red.

Of course, he's right, Liverpool WILL face stiffer opposition, and we all know we are only ever one goal away from a collapse but, on a night when some glorious goals were scored at Anfield, keene's resentment of LFC was laid bare for all to see.

    It was delightful to watch
