Reports are Juve and PSG also linked so we'll have a slim to non chance if true, but he would be great for us right now. He's still got legs no doubt about it.

Always loved Masch. But if we were to buy a defensive midfielder tomorrow it would be either Krychowiak or Nainngolan. What Krychowiak is doing at WBA is one of 2017's great mysteries.

    Pretty much this

ALthough I have to admit I don't really know how is form is any more - but I'd have thought he would be able to keep playing into his mid-30s without a problem.

at 33 he would walk into our midfield it's a no brainer
Alonso, being retired and not training for 6 mths, would walk into our midfield for Soton. Don't think either will happen, but for fans of our team to consider turning up our noses at even an older Masch or an older Suarez is mind-boggling, given what we have now.

Masch (at 33) would immediately become our best DMF & CB.
Suarez (at 30) would immediately become our best Forward, Midfielder & Defender (& still hit 30 goals this season)

That's an indictment on the assembling of this team.

Just get him in for his impact on the dressing room. Masch won't accept any **** from our current players. If our defence and central midfield are being weak he will whip them into shape.

So now we're getting Suarez AND Mascherano !! And keeping Coutinho!

Barca must be well pleased with us...might as well lodge a bid for Messi while we're at it!

hilarious someone would pass up the chance to get masch, 33 isn't that old , he doesnt need to play every game but would help out a hell of a lot and we'd probbaly see he's adapted his game more since leaving us

I don't think it will happen, but I'd love Mascherano to come back to Liverpool for a couple of seasons.

It's a nice thought, but I don't think he'll be anywhere near as effective in the premier league as he was before given his age. Especially when he's played as a CB for Barca in a much slower league for the past X years.

But will he be more effective than any other current player we have (in either DMF or CB) => YES, definitely!

There is a tendency for us supporters to want good players who moved on to other clubs to return, even when they are getting older and less effective. I liked Mascherano when he played for us, but I do not want him now when he is definitely less effective, older, and might be taking the place of a younger defensive player who might be discouraged from sticking around to wait his turn to play.

What younger defensive player? We don't have any other defensive midfielders.

Yeah, that's probably more likely than him coming here. He might decide to go to play in the MLS for a couple of years though.

I'm sure there will be plenty of suitors next summer.

Are you suggesting we replace Mascherano with Masherano?

His impact would be more in the dressing room than on the pitch, I'm all for it.

He's not from Buenos Aires. Apparently didn't like it at River Plate. If I remember correctly he said he'd be going to make Pizzas in San Lorenzo.
Players and managers should never come back.

The pizza article is really old, I think it was in the Guardian. I have always wondered if a Mascherano pizza would be any good.

If it mirrored his playing style Id be all for it. They would be small pizzas but fairly meaty and plenty of chilli.

A 40 year old Mascherano is better than any of our current midfielders.
