Definitely a plus, but I'm not quite as thrilled about his defending which didn't convince me at times. Give him time of course, a pretty good performance first time out but the true measure will be how the defence does longer term with him in it.

I thought Keown's description of him as a Rolls Royce purring around the place was great. Or on the other hand, he looks like a 'banger' which is the term we used to use for a fella playing for an underage team that he was too old for. There’s no trace of that word on the internet, so it might just have been a term from my area...

He was literally under every longball header too, and I loved how he demanded that Karius come out that couple of times, that’ll soon learn our keepers. I can only imagine the mess that could’ve been had that not happened, though it wouldn’t be hard to tbh.

His goal too, magic stuff, and it was coming. We weren’t afraid to use him for a fair few free kicks either, ones we’d normally just kick and go. And you gotta love the winning goal against Allardyce coming from a set piece.

I impressed with his debut performance by his ability to command more than his composure, even if he did demonstrate composure even in hitting important clearances.

He is bound to be our new captain next season, on his debut he was very vocal and showed what a real leader does, it was like he has played for us for years.

Different class, and a proper leader too as you say. Even if he’s not made captain, he’ll be the captain out there, something we’ve desperately needed.

We’ve been seducing all these players with our one Captaincy.

Coutinho - ‘stay and you’ll be Captain... ooooohhh’

VVD - ‘come and be the Captain.... oooohhh’

Emre - ‘sign up and you’ll be Captain... ooooohh’

The last one I made up but the fans have been saying it

On his debut I was watching at home with the family, and everybody was saying how massive and powerful he looked, he is like a man mountain.

Yeah but I didn't think we would sign him

Van Dijk is the perfect captain for any side, he radiates authority.

Fans and pundits during the summer "Klopp should have had a plan B when he couldn't get VVD."

There is no PLAN B. There is only one plan. The plan is to get the right players in.

90% of his signings have been excellent.

Yeah, even bigger than I thought he was, especially when you see him in our team. And such a lovely footballer too, he has it all.

Karius. Not doing it for me at the moment.

I hope he can become a great player for us, because he was decent for his former club.

Eh, he came in better than the guy he replaced in the squad (Bogdan), he was cheap, and he's young and has potential. Maybe not "excellent" but certainly not a "bad" signing IMO...

Should have paid about 40 million for him but whatever, let's hope our defense improves a bit now, a GK and a DM is required next.

You're right! Why didn't the club think of that? They've made a big error spending £75m on him instead of £40m. Good thinking.

I'm just saying that's realistically what his true value is, we paid 75 million because Klopp felt we really needed him. I hope Klopp does the same for the Coutinho replacement and not just Van Dijk.

in the current market where indelof sold for 38 milion, you think vvd is worth 40?

True value? It could be said for all of them.

The market is the market, had we said we're only paying 40m for him he wouldn’t ever be playing for us. And I suspect the point would then be made that we were just too cheap to spend the money.

It really is funny how this transfer has been received by some, it’s not the first time I’ve hear the claim that we paid too much. The club really just can’t win in these matters.

People seem to still judge fees by the standard of 5 years ago. £60m is the new £30m, and it'll only get worse with the crazy amount of money in the game. It is a lot of money, but I've came to expect it now and fully accept that teams will continue to pay crazy money for players from here on. When you see teams like Crystal Palace sign £27m Benteke and £26m Sakho (thanks btw!), and teams like Watford turn down £30m for Troy Deeney, you know the market has gone.

Sounds precautionary more than anything else, oh well our other CBs have been in good form and gives them a chance to impress again and they will all want to be staking a claim to be his partner.

Coutinho gone, no sign of a replacement, VvD injured already. Really starting to feel a bit doom and gloom. A win today would be massive.

When Pogba was sold for his fee, it looked like the world would end, but that’s standard for a goo player now, and actually quite low for the player he’s supposed to be.

You really see it with the lesser teams alright, there isn’t a whole lot of value or reason to sell their important players because they’re so hard to replace in the market. It’s such a tough league now, top 6 for 4 spots, and basically any team can win a match against anyone and it’s not considered that shocking.
