Very possible. Simao was what, 12m? Villa and silva about 20m each?

Jun aguero was available for 13m to us after we won the CL and rafa tried but was not allowed.

    Ducks doesn't it.

    Dani Alves, vidic, evra too.

Moores just didn't want to pay for them.

It was a completely different era and there was not the revenue to allow clubs to make big changes without taking big risks.

But again...this thread is about what our owners have done...and are doing.

Trying to make comparisons to the past is pretty pointless and proves nothing really.
Well they have proven that they have moved to make sure they maximise revenues. Much better deals off the pitch despite us having no CL.

Main stand delivered at 114m when that same funds would have delivered a whole stadium in the 90s!

I don't think anyone can accuse fsg of not doing well off the pitch therefore chances are they would have done the same in the 90s which would have correlated very well on the pitch with us already being the number one club in england then.

You need to stop this now.

You are criticising Moores for being careful and not spending his own money or saddling the club with debt.

The exact same criticism, that some level at FSG.

What's past is past and has no relevance to PL football today and the billions floating around.

I don't think they've been brilliant off the pitch.

Commercially, we haven't seen a massive up turn in revenues compared to other clubs.

I thought it was because we didn't meet their asking price.

We bid something like 8 million but they wanted 13m for him?

From what I recall, a deal was done and he was flying to Liverpool, the fans revolted and Benfica started trying to renegotiate and increase the fee.

You can probably pin a bit on Moores but not this one.

Was it you or stuz who reckoned the bulk of revenue increases were down to the tv deal?

We have not been in the cl other than 1 year out of 6 and this is the 2nd year now. Yet we have kept pace with arsenal.

The bigger deals are given to cl clubs. Hence why man u will make 70m from Adidas should they be in the cl and 40m if they are not. That's 30m difference from one sponsor.

    Both.

We are competing now, but the only way to grow commercial revenues significantly is to have success on the pitch.

Constant European football and trophies do that...unless you can do some "interesting" sponsorships like City...and interestingly, Leicester, have done.

It’s why we’ve made the step up from Ayre to Moore, imo. The timing is now right for the lucrative deals to start rolling in

We are now in a generation where we will be linked with the up and coming superstars, the future. No teams in the world sign the "Messi's"

That is why we are linked with Lemar and Goretzka. That is why we have got Mane and Salah and Virgil and by the looks of it Firmino. And to come Keita.
Your getting me wrong i was trying to say the three i named were obviously not my first choices( Messi Saurez Kane ect were) i chose three it was possible to sign

Barca didn’t even sign Messi, they signed a kid from Argentina. Yesterday he wasn’t happy that FSG hadn’t signed Suarez, Coutinho, and Salah, when they were world class, but prior to when they kicked on. Same with Barca and Messi, and most of their best players actually. I’d have thought that was a feather in the FSG cap tbh.

I don't if you are interested in darts or not, but David Moores reminded me of Olly Croft, the former BDO chairman, stuck in the past and lacked the nous to take his organization forward.

Like Moores he refused to change with the times.
