Its not a disaster but losing a one of the best players in the world from your squad can hardly be considered anything but a bad loss and that quality lost needs replacing.

Well I wouldn't say that entirely....

    With Couthino

    Tottenham 4 Liverpool 1

    Liverpool 0 Man United 0

    Newcastle 1 Liverpool 1

    Spartak Moscow 1 Liverpool 1

    Liverpool 1 Burnley 1

    Without Couthino

    Liverpool 4 Hoffenheim 2

    Liverpool 4 Arsenal 0

    Liverpool 3 Huddersfield 0

    West Ham 1 Liverpool 4

    Liverpool 3 Maribor 0

I know statistics can prove anything or nothing, but it shows we didn't rely on him as much as being made out.

Makes you wonder why we didn't just give him away sooner.

Just stating that I don't think he'll be missed as many think. Not saying he was rubbish. Amazing how people go from one extreme to the other when they disagree with you.

The first bit sounded like you were disagreeing... with something I wasn’t saying, then saying what I was saying.

Not disagreeing, just qualifying the extent to which our form so far without him is truly representative. I'm not sure we're quite that good. I don't think that's really what you meant anyway, so even the qualification was more in agreement than disagreement.

    Anywho...

    All good, crossed lines...

Yeah, I felt there was enough evidence to suggest we’d cope okay without him. I’d posted numbers a good while back that had surprised me when I looked into them, but after the last 3 games, I’m even more encouraged because they were also without other key players.

We really won't miss one of the top half dozen players in the world? Find that hard to believe

Using these same stats - win percentage with or without certain players, who would be our most essential player this season? I bet the list isn't as some would think

I also wonder what it's like for other teams too - Mangala for example has played 9 in the Premiership, won 8, lost 0 - they haven't lost with him playing - that's better than De Bruyne, Aguero, Sterling, Sane

Perfect example of how statistics are a load of crap and you have to actually watch the game rather than focusing on technicalities on paper

I don't think he plays the same position.

As long as they stay fit and fresh...

As I said in the weaker/stronger thread, + VvD - Coutinho makes the first XI stronger but the bench weaker (assuming no one steps up and starts punching "above their weight" such as a Grujic or Woodburn). When we go back to playing every 3-4 days for a couple of months we'll need the bench & fringe players to step up or we're likely to have people running on fumes down the stretch.

We will miss Coutinho immensely. I look at our side and no longer see any truly creative playmakers, and thats a problem. Yep we scored 4 against City, but we should know by now that the way we play means often we don't struggle to score as much against the better sides who actually come to play football.

Its next week, and the week after when we play a Burnley or a Stoke who sits back and slows down play where I'm not sure Mane, Salah, Ox can create stuff themselves. They run lines, use their pace, but in those slow games they need a playmaker to play off. How many times this season has it been a Coutinho free kick or goal out of nowhere that has cracked open a parked bus?

Van dijk coming in should mean we don't need as many goals to win games. Time will tell.

2 0-0 and 5 1-1 results thus far this season (all comps) show it's not always been the defense letting us down when we drop points...

There is a proven EPL player with lots of baggage who would be an ideal replacement for Coutinho and his name is Dimitri Payet ,i wonder if Kloppo would consider him as apart from Fabregas and Kevin de Bruyne there are not many players who create loads of goal scoring opportunities !!
