We have a lot more quality at Snakeboy's position than we have in the center of the defense. We also got a lot of money to spend on other areas where we need strengthening. If we invest that properly we will be better than before. 140m quid is a ridiculous amount of cash.

    Agree.

To be honest, done right and that £140m could transform our team dramatically.

As depressing as it may sound, but even throwing a little bit of it at Leipzig to get Keita early will have me happy. We can then significantly improve our side in the summer with that money, on top of what our budget may be.

Without Phil our midfield is poor and without VVD our defence is poor. It's 50/50 imo.

I think having a poor midfield makes our defence worse than it actually is.

yes of course, but without Phil and Lallana just getting up to speed I cant see any goals coming from Midfield any time soon. Also Phil's key passes create so much, we'll miss that massively. Even Everton have a better midfield than us now.

    Yep. It is pretty sad.

Porto would be jerking off right now.

Not a chance, Guaye would transform our Midfield.

That must be the reason big Sam bypasses his midfield

Itís probably a bit like Lucas. Had you put him in Evertonís midfield he may well have looked boss. For us, he looked best when we actually werenít playing particularly well. Good in the trenches, so to speak. Didnít fit into a free flowing side.

Back to the question - VVD is the choice in order to steady our defence with building from the back when moving forward. We are still a team that is able to create goal chances but shoring up the back may provide us sneaking the one goal wins when required. The big thing we will miss from Coutinho is forward passing ability and currently we don't a player who has the same ability in the squad - that is were Klopp needs to strengthen.

Without creativity to feed it our attack is certainly worse, against Everton without cou and salah we were a lot easier to deal with , and it was against a poor poor Everton

Coutinho was playing very well the last month, but he wasn't always for consistent. Also, he was not tracking back on defense the way Klopp prefers. He actually does have an injury and can't play for Barcelona for three weeks. Van Dijk is a dominant centre back, who has good passing ability, heading ability, and marshals the defense very well. He is captain material, too. Centre backs have longer careers and he is still relatively young. On balance, I would take Van Dijk.

He looked boss for Villa, his 'stats' were on par with Kante at the time. I mentioned him several times on here before Everton bought him and was gutted when they did. He'd be a top player in any Prem team in the holding role imo.

we definitely need more creativity to replace phil but what i will say is , if we become more solid with VVD then it might not matter too much, i mean we've had plenty of creativity in the last 2-3 years but still managed to blow 2/3 goal leads so hopefully now we'll be able to see games out away from home like we have at home

According to FIFA we are far stronger with Van Dijk in our team instead of Coutinho.

And yes, I mean FIFA the video game.

well given Klopp just said "if we told Phil he had to stay, I wouldn't of been able to use him second half of the season" confirms Phil said he'd never play for the club again and it was a risk Klopp wasn't willing to take and he agreed that a sale had to happen

    simple really

1 player was desperate to join
1 player was desperate to leave

    VVD all day long

Phil is another nugget who said he wouldn't play for the club again, The leaving statement he made was hogwash.
