So what's not true? I just said it was out of the clubs hands

Does that mean that if Chelsea sell Hazard, or Utd sell DeGeato Real Madrid, then they are no longer big clubs?

They have never been, Alex Ferguson's pact with the devil aside.

I don’t think he has said anything incorrect there.

United had already agreed to sell DDG, the move just fell through last second. They sold Ronaldo and Beckham to Madrid years before.

Except that they didn’t sell any of those players in mid-season.

The problem is not so much about selling players, RM is a far bigger club and occasionally would sell one of their top players, occasionally being the operative word, I don’t remember them selling any of those in the middle of the season though. I think we have reached a situation where we have manager who is used to selling his best players almost on year basis and owners who have a record of selling their best players as soon as they feel they have reached their peak value. I fully expect Salah to be sold within the next two seasons.

Barcelona mustn't be a big club either as they cashed in on Neymar!

We couldn't keep Coutinho for ever. We couldn't deny him his dream. Coutinho wouldn't of accepted that in the end is my firm view.
And I'm almost certain a deal was done with him in the summer to keep him sweet, so now he has to go short of a pointless piece of bravado from Liverpool.

John Giles was just on Irish radio there now, he has a weekly slot on Newstalk.

He was questioned on the Coutinho saga and calling Liverpool not a big club. The presenter stated how if the player wants to go its out side their control and does that make Manchester Utd not a big club?

To which Giles replied 'ahh well they got a lot of money for him you know'

Need I say anymore. He lost his job on RTE tv because he is gone senile.

We are going over old ground here. Whatever the situation was selling him in January doesn’t make a very good reading. Then again they sold Torres in January too so they didn’t really break any rule. For FSG is nothing to do about the timing is about the number.

You've got nothing positive to say about Liverpool, don't know why you are here.

The only reason I have left (to be here) is to interact with you, that really keeps me going.

Thanks dear, but I think you'd be more suited to a Spanish League forum

Certainly a replaceable player, especially when you have 142million to do it with.

Surprised to still see this thread going, surely it should have been locked or merged by now?. Giles is a bell end.

Johnny Giles in entitled to his opinion. My opinion is that when he was playing for Leeds he was a dirty little ***** who was not averse to going over the top or doing nasty stuff off the ball. Ignore him and hopefully he will go a long long way away

Thanks CoffeeShop. I’m a fan over 40 years - love Liverpool Football Club. Giles was a Legend as a footballer. I totally disagree with him here. I Listen to him on Irish radio every week giving his thoughts on football some very interesting but this time wrong in my opinion.

I think even you must accept there's a difference between a club with so much recent success selling their best player, and one struggling to get back to winning ways for so long selling theirs.

So it then makes its doubly harder to keep your best player. vicious cycle

It has little to do with Coutinho leaving. It's got to do with us not winning.

Giles is click bait, an ageing old bitter lazy pundit who attracts a minority of equally bitter folk who can't be arsed to engage their brains and say stuff like, 'Yeah he's got a point though, durrrrrrp. Let me climb on that and use it to support my lonely ramblings '

Its the same whenever you watch Dunphy, or have the misfortune too.

Funny folk in a way, and still somehow less hateful than Richard Keys

The fact that we've won more European Cups than every club bar Milan and Real Madrid makes us a massive club.

The fact we sold Coutinho for the 2nd highest transfer fee ever makes us a massive club.

The fact we've signed the most expensive defender ever makes us a *********** massive club.

Like Inter and Milan, we've had some terrible seasons but come on, we will always be a big club. We haven't won a league title for 28 years and are still only 2 behind Utd - the undisputed biggest club in the world . We're massive and it's down to our history.
