I've noticed that AC Milan have been struggling this season but only just realised they are 11th in the table, despite spending 230m euros.

Anyone with a better knowledge of Italy, how has it gone so spectacularly wrong for them this season and will they ever get back to the top table of European football?

A list of their summer signings:

    Franck Kessie- 18 million
    Nikola Kalinic- 18 million
    Fabio Borini- 5 million
    Leonardo Bonucci- 37 million
    Andre Silva- 34 million
    Andrea Conti- 22 million
    Hakan Calhanoglu- 19 million
    Mateo Musacchio- 16 million
    Ricardo Rodriguez- 16 million
    Lucas Biglia- 15 million

Have they bought too many players? Or just bought poorly or a bit of both?

They could be in serious financial trouble if they don't make CL. Which they won't.

Imagine signing Borini with the intention of qualifying for the CL.

Has their free signing from Liverpool been pretty much their best player?

We could help by signing Donorumma - although he’ll probably end up at Juve or Real

Buffon likely retiring at end of season and their backup keeper is Scezny. They’ll be buying a new keeper in the summer surely. I reckon they’ll be right in for Donnarumma

They've not bought badly, before season started I had them getting 4th ahead of Lazio Inter.

They've just all underperformed collectively, constant change of managers....I mean appointing Gattuso was a horrific decision. Loaning out Bacca was another eyebrow raising moment.

    They're like the Italian Everton

Woj has become a pretty decent keeper in the end, no?

Yeah he’s not bad (better than what we have of course), but have a feeling they’ll want to replace Buffon with top quality.

But like trying to use Henderson as Gerrards replacement rather than signing a top quality mf

Mini fall out with Allegri in December 16 i think, rough relationship after that. Also had his son receiving treatment for an illness in a hospital in Milan and wanted to be closer to him

I've watched a couple of AC Milan games this season and they've looked pretty damn poor. I've seen Borini used as a RWB and a LWB, which was interesting to say the least! I've been pretty underwhelmed by Kessie. He was a player quite a few posters were 'bigging' up in the past, but he doesn't look like he's up to much at all. I don't buy into the Rodriguez hype either, to be honest.

On paper, it looked like AC brought in some decent players in the summer, but their squad is so imbalanced in my opinion. They have like 6 full backs, 6 centre backs and 7 central midfielders, but only two attacking midfielders/wingers (Suso and Calhanoglu). Their centre forwards all seem pretty similar in terms of style too, although I do like the look of Cutrone.

The problem is upfront. The midfield does need improvement too. The defence is good enough on paper. Still didn’t expect them to make the CL but certainly to e a bit closer.

I have a friend who is a Milan fan and I've watched a few of their games this season and they're a mess. They've spent a lot but their signings are better on FIFA 15 than real life and their constant choice in managers in baffling.

Didn't the Chinese owner buy the club in the same way H&G bought us, with a leveraged buyout. He needs to start paying back that loan very soon as far as I understand it. They banked on getting champions league which their not going to get. It could turn into a real mess there.

He's about 30% of the player he once was.

    They’re crap.

A string of disastrous managerial appointments, and dreadful recruitment has left them exactly where they belong.

Unless they go back to basics, they’ll continue to be a shell of themselves.
