Imagine Arsenal getting 75m for two players who were leaving for free at the end of season anyway.

    Just ridiculous.

This reminds me of when Patrick Vieira would be reportedly unhappy at Arsenal in consecutive summers in 99, 00 and 01 and Jamie Redknapp said he should sign for Liverpool.
Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Makes you wonder why more top players don't do this tbh.

I mean run your contract down to nothing then whore yourself about for a 20-30 million dollar pay day direct to you (less probs 6-7 to the agent) AND get a huge weekly wage on top.

    Basically free money.
Do. Or do not. There is no try.

If you are in the last two years of your contract then it definitely makes sense to do that. In fact we are seeing in increasing trend of this sort of approach amongst the best players so they can hold all the cards.

Because you spend the last three years on your 'old wage' - whereas if you sign a new deal at your current club every couple of years then you get a regular pay rise.

This is true so the key is too have a very good year (the first) and then negotiate a pay rise without extending your contract that much.

The part regarding signing a contract and getting salary increase is correct. However with current crazy transfer fees things may change.

and extra 20-30K a week means nothing over 3 year or so means nothing if you picking up a 30 million cash $$ cheque.!! + wages

Also, if you did it say 3 times over your career you could easily make 50 - 100 million $$ extra if you Kane, Sanchez, Coutinho... Imagine messi. He' probably get a 100 million cash cheque from city.

Yes, if you think about it Coutinho ended up losing money when he signed that contract, I mean literally.

Yep. If I was a player (top one), I'd run my contract down and take the singing on fee. It's pretty much just name a price....

United would for sure give Sanchez 30 Mill cash bonus + 250K a week. We'd all take that for sure.

As a player I like him, good replacement for phil but don't like the way he carries himself a lot of the time, he's a sulky prat. So its a NO from me.

    Utd linked today, Chelsea thereabouts.

Definitely not signing a knew deal.

Is he pushing out for a free transfer to only City? Surprised no other european clubs are calling.

Just turned 29, perfect replace for Phil?
He's not a replacement for Coutinho and would never come to LFC in a million years.

There are more chances him wanting to play the exciting football under Klopp than that boring crap from Man utd.

I think he will wait for the summer and go to city

Depends what motivates him football or cash in Jan.

Yeah no chance he'll come here so just hope he leaves this league completely. PSG or Bayern. Anywhere but one of our rivals.

No matter who snatches him up his departure will severely hurt Arsenal. They will take themselves out of the Top4 race.

Losing Sanchez and Ozil for basically nothing will really hurt Arsenal's transfer plans for sure. That is 150 million pounds (today's market) for two players they will get basically nothing for....

    Ouch

Think there's no doubt we'd happily pay the 35m fee. Highly doubt we'd even consider offering him the 300k a week that United supposedly are though.

Its weird really it works out roughly the same over 5 years as Van Dijk overall

Id pay the fee and the wages.

If ever we were given an opportunity to swap one top quality player for another, this would be it.

Who cares if we over spend? We had no problem overspending on Ox. We had no problem selling Coutinho for more than we should have.

In which case he'll reject United as well.
