Couldn't see a topic yet so mods just merge this when a proper one is made.

Going into Porto with a fully fit side and I think we can get a decent result. Would take a score draw but I think we can win. Porto won 4-0 yesterday against Chavez and generally have very good home form this season so will be difficult. Notable results in champions league are beating Leipzig 3-1 and Monaco 5-2.

I really hope Karius starts and Klopp doesn't try to rotate keepers.

Big test for our defence and midfield here.

Hopefully we are sensible, or we could get done easy

i'm hoping we adapt slightly and try to keep it tight atleast to start, be patient. We will always be threatening with mane and salah speed, so if we are solid and hard to beat in the first leg that has to be the aim. Porto are used to winning and have a really good attack.

We need to be very controlled and disciplined away from home in ECL against teams like this. Nothing silly in defence. Would happily take a boring 1-0 win away against Porto. We can do our usual thing back home in the second fixture.

ECL? Is that a mistake or am I missing something. Assuming the CL stands for Champions League but that E is throwing me for one

Other than that I agree. Would love a similar result / performance to Sunday. Doesn’t need to be pretty.

Correct . 7-2 on aggregate. Robertson with 3 assists and Gini ripped to shreads in both match threads .

I'll be content if he can manage 3 good crosses.

They are unbeaten since October! I don't understand why we are so confident...

I mean it's a good stat but their league is hardly the most competitive.

We have only lost 2 (1 in league) since October in a much much harder league.

That's exactly the type of opponents we tend to beat and hence the confidence. We are more uncomfortable with Struggling teams like West Broms and Swanseas of the world who decide to raise their game just when they play against us.

Here’s hoping that the sentiments are justified but Porto have more to them than being our path to the Quarters. Defensively they seem to be solid in their domestic league. Quite what a measure that is, I dont know as they’ve shipped 10 in their CL Group. We are well capable of beating them but I would be fearful that too often, we come bearing gifts. Can’t imagine they’ll have been gutted on drawing us either but we’re in good form so no basic individual errors and we should do it.

You're right, we should go into the game thinking we have no chance. In fact, we shouldn't even bother showing up.

To be fair I'd be confident of turning a 3-0 loss around at Anfield

Our MF is irrelevant as we cant even control games against sides at the bottom of PL. Its our defence and attack that matters with Klopp as his mfs dont control games.

No way. We'd concede for a start. Have done against most decent sides we've played this season. Since Nov we have played Seville (a) Chelsea (h) Arsenal (a) City(h) and Spurs (h) and conceded 12 goals in those 5 games.

I think the team will be:

    --------------------Karius(plz Klopp)------------------
    -------Gomez-----VVD-----Lovren-------Moreno-----
    -------------------Can----Hendo----------------------
    ----------------------Lallana---------------------------
    ----------Mane---------------------Salah--------------
    -----------------------Firmino-------------------------

I wouldn't pick Moreno over Robertson but I think Klopp will.

I was joking but to be fair we have some smashed some teams at home as well.

It's so lush being back in the Champions League knockout isn't it?

Europa league is like when your nan's tried her best but bought own brand gear, and you pretend it's the same, but it's not.

    Up the reds.

Moreno hasn’t faired well in his games against Seville and so I’d hope that is enough for Klopp not to risk him against Porto.
Can is suspended so Gini will probably play. Toss up with Lallana and Ox in terms of fitness and form/quality but I too would start Lallana.
Must be Karius in goal, if only for belief. Not sure if Gomez is fit and Lovern or Matip is a call for Klopp too.

No reason to be overly confident about this. They are a good team and this is the Champions League. I'd take a draw first leg.

For the first 20 minutes, probably.

It's the rest of the game that's the worrying part

Because we are in great form overall since October too.

In that context both sides can be confident and should be a good tie.

Well, if we are 3-0 up after those first 20 minutes not so much.

But then, we looked a lot more in control against Southampton and saw that game out at 2-0 very well, do that in Portugal and we could bring a very good result back to Anfield.

Southampton was pretty much the complete opposite. We looked more and more comfortable as the game went on.
