Watching the match yesterday and Sky highlights of the game again, Van Dijk's performance was the biggest positive for me.

Could have been a difficult atmosphere for him with the reception he got from Southampton fans but he handled it with absolute ease. I remember Lovren receiving similar treatment and really struggling with it. I think we've done brilliantly to get this guy in, great defender, classy on the ball, composed.

He has the ice cold demeanour of a trained assassin.

Hopefully many more performances to come.

    He was very good.

In the summer we need to find thed right partner for him.

Can't argue with that, and a bit of protection infront of him and behind. He's a great player to build the defence around.

Personally I'd rather we focused everything on a GK and a DM.

After that, I think we need another player for the forward line.

I wouldn't be arsed if we didn't buy anyone else except for replacements for any outgoing players.

He was smiling all the way through the game, even while getting booed. He was practically aroused

Love seeing a player with that much confidence and assurance during a match. Hoping his calmness and leadership will continue to rub off on the back 4 for the rest of the season. If only our midfield showed the type of composure him and Matip have on the ball

Confidence, assurance, calmness, leadership and composure are exactly what we needed and he has all of that as you said.

    We definitely need another CB.

Matip started off well here but has been very poor for quite a while now.

Lovren has used up his chances.

Gomez? Maybe. But think next year might be too early to he a first choice LFC CB.

We won't sign a DM or a forward player.

I can see us signing another wide forward player like Pulisic or an attacking midfielder who can play wide like Coutinho. That's a must surely.

Surely we'll sign a forward player - we're selling Sturridge by all accounts and we can't rely on that front 3 for a whole season with Danny Ings as their backup...

Think he'll view Lallana as a new signing next season and Solanke being a year older as one too.

indeed he will, but that doesn't mean he won't sign anyone else. its quite common to get other players in before the old ones are removed a season or so down the line. .

I'm not convinced we'll sign another CB for next season now. If we do, it'll probably be a replacement for Klavan.

Yeah, I can't see that at all. And if he does, then good luck to him.

next season is milners last, contract is up. so chances are he will be much more of a squad/back up player next season. imo, the same fate awaits lallana in two seasons time.

Ok but what does that have to do with this summer?

Think he'll extend Milners deal, btw.

Another thread about a player that's been taken totally off topic!

because its easier to get players in now and integrate them into the system/club etc which makes it easier to move others on later. as for milner he has already said its his last if i recall correctly, he's going into coaching with the club.

then lets bring it back. for a guy not wholly match fit he has done well so far and in general the defense has looked sound.

Yep, some just can’t help themselves and the thread ends up as negative jibes at the management transfers and eventually our owners. Same old story.

Back on topic, yeah VVD is just performing exactly the reason we wanted from him and is a great signing. Strolled around like ... and was just calmly doing a great job on the opposition. Nice to see. Of course a great number of posters reckon he was over priced and we should hav hone elsewhere, utter tosh in my mind.

was over priced by a long way but certainly seems well worth the price if he continues as he has started and helps the defence become more stable. someone posted that he reminded them of sami, might be a decent shout that. even more so if we can find the henchoz to be his foil.

    Thank you ^^

Can just see VVD has complete faith in his abilities, will hopefully breed confidence in his teammates too.

Aye its relentless regardless of the thread topic, the Salah thread went through the same cycle

Getting to the point the football being played is secondary

Thought VVD looked outstanding yesterday, a real presence not seen in our back four for an age.

Won his headers, stepped in & won his tackles, brought the ball out, played it safe & into touch when needs be. Just everything you want

Hope for more of the same & sure we'll get it too

I think he could strike up a decent partnership with Lovren.

Still can’t believe it when I see him in our shirt. He was superb yesterday.

His partner is a conundrum, Matip likes a forward direct pass, it was his initial ball to Salah, however, he looks shaky defensively. Lovren is more basic and actually has looked pretty solid along side the big man.

Will we realistically sell one of Matip and Lovren to bring in a partner ? Not sure
