He was contacted by The Los Angeles Times yesterday about the book and the memorial service.
Here's the article by journalist from the LA times http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-...,3955379.story
A good read.
Very well done, and thank you to the LA Times for publishing/spreading the awareness of the concumittant injustice of what happened at Hillsborough on the 15th of April 1989.
buy the book...
support the HJC..
All proceeds go to the HJC
If anyone reading this is unsure whether to go for the book or not, don't be. This is a beautifully put together, very moving book. The poems are from very different voices and perspectives but all of them contribute to the whole. There's also some excellent photographs and the design of the book is first rate.
Many thanks for the updates and 'bumps' in this thead, it's really appreciated.
Future copies of the book will contain 2 extra poems ( that's 55 in all)
The book is available from the HJC this coming match day, so for the price of a hot dog ( or near enough !) please do your best to pick up a copy, and raise some money for the HJC.
One thing I'd like to also point out, this poetry book tells the whole story of Hillsborough and the aftermath, from all sorts of eye witness views to reflections made 20 years later, from people who were there to people who were not ( but were still affected just as much )
This is a new poem, so it's not in the book, thanks again for everyones support with this project.
Why am I all alone here, this is not right, why is this so?
I see no flashing lights coming towards me, no sirens on
So here I am all alone now, so just who do I attend to first?
Though I hear people screaming in pain before me, it doesnít
mean they are hurt the worst.
And I witness panic all around me, police officers not knowing
what to do.
So why am I all alone here, please let more ambulances through.
People gasping for breath before me, and people fighting for air.
So why am I still all alone here, doesnít anybody care?
So just who should I turn to next, prioritise, is what we were taught.
But so many frantic pleas to be heard, in so many minds to be
42 ambulances outside the ground, 80 trained staff could have been
by my side.
But I was left all alone to manage by myself, I think Iíve failed, but I
And eventually I drove away, my ambulance could simply hold no
The cries for help were still in my ears, and I passed the Forest roar.
So that's how it happened for one man, who then lost his career and
his Sheffield home.
An ambulance man that tried his best, but could very little, when left
we have to win for them. for the 96.
because, you'll never walk alone.
you're not alone we are with yours.
I am strongly, proudly and arrogantly proclaiming with authority that liverpool football club is the greatest football club ever on this planet, period!!!!!!!!!! Lfc is the icon and superstar of world football.....the rest just take a backseat and envy our reds passion.....which is 2nd to nothing!!!!!!!!!! Inwa, ynwa and wnwa all reds, including the 96!!!!!!!!!!
The last four lines from Dylans Blowing in the Wind seam appropriate in the sense of will the powers that be ever learn that they can't cheat the people...that the truth will eventually come out..
How many deaths will it take till he knows..
...the answer my friend is blowing in the wind.
I am posting onto this thread as it references poetry. I know that there has been a number of books of poems written on Hillsborough by recognised persons but is there a market for a conglomeration of work from various supporters who have written one or two themselves? I'm sure that a lot of fans have something written that is sitting at home in drawers and would only be too delighted to submit to form a collection in order to raise a few pounds for the pursuit of Justice. Good idea? Bad idea? Overdone? Anyone involved in previous publishing who feels this has value?
Going to have this one. I've waited so long. This is mine!
