Oh.... well just a few of his songs 'candy shop', 'amusement park', the one with ****** timberlake (cant remember the name). None of those were actual hip hop songs. He is originally a rapper yes, same as Kanye West. But both have tried to make pop albums recently- to try and gain a bigger fanbase i guess.

Both currently are not rappers though, well i wouldnt call them ones anyways

why is Justi-n blocked out haha

Get some Joe Budden, Jedi Mind Tricks and Immortal Technique in you. (not in that way, perv.)

Haven't seen them mentioned in here yet (perhaps I haven't been looking).

Also, MC Solaar. Very chilled French rap with absolutely brilliant jazz beats. Prose Combat is his best album.

OH yeah immortal technque with the point of no return is a good tune but a little heavy on the lyrics for me, talking about religious hatred and spanish raping native americans is not my taste.

    Good man.

There is actually some R&B I like, but not in a "deep and meaningful" way - it's just easy to listen to, with good beats

Been listening to Lupe Fiasco a lot lately - his beats and lyricism are amazing.
Nice one, just reminded me of some music for tomorrow I havnt listened to for a few weeks. I picked up his album after loving Kanye's new one. I never thought I would like it after only hearing Superstar as it annoyed the hell out of me on the radio. I even like that song now when listening to the whole album, Streets on fire is a top tune.

Dan le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip if you want something a bit different. Some others I like include Akala, Handsome boy modelling school, J5, Plan B, R2D2...

Dont know if they've been mentioned.

It is... as is Intruder Alert (sad though), Gotta Eat (such an intelligent song), Little Weapon is just great too. Just love the whole album apart from the song with Snoop Dogg

Does anybody remember the Disposable Heroes of Hiphopracy?

Not sure how many albums they did but IMHO they were effing brilliant.

I have the album Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxury with California Uber Alez, Satanic Reverses and Television Drug of the Nation on.

The album is superb. If you haven't heard them try and listen to a tune or two online and let me know what you think. Must have been about 15 years ago they did the album but it still works on many levels.

I also have to give a shout out to Funkdoobiest as they are superb, and also think you can't go wrong with Black Sunday by Cypress Hill.

Exactly, if people start thinking mainstream pap is hip-hop then they ARE going to think it's pants.

I hate R & B with a passion, and when is spews over into the term Hip-hop it does my head in.

I'm not a big hip hop fan at all but there is some brilliant music IMHO in that genre. Public Enemy changed the face of that genre and took it away from sterotypical cliche'd crud and turned it into something with credibilty. Since then it's unfortunately evolved into the land of guns, bitches and bling.

One big problem is the rubbish they play on the radio that gets tagged as hip-hop just because a bloke raps in it. Most stuff tagged as hip hop nowadays is just R&B or dance or even pop.

If you want to find out what hip hop is listen to Cypress Hill or Grandmaster Flash (White Lines, what a tune!) or Public Enemy, that's what it should be in it's purest form!

i just cant understand how the likes of akon and 50 cent apparantly arent hip hop but cypress hill is?

cypress hill is hip hop in it's "purest form" yet it's a completely different style of music compared to artists like notorious b.i.g or tupac - arent those two meant to be "pure" hip hop artists?

Are you sure people aren’t just deciding what’s “real” hip hop based on what they like and don’t like?

Where’s shaps the wigger when I need him!

Stfu Hip hop has loads of different forms/styles so its a little difficult sometimes to judge what is what. Anyways....had Akon been white- no one would think he was a rapper, thats a fakt!

I didn't say anywhere that 50 Cent wasn't hip hop (although I'd say B.I.G. is pretty close to not being hip hop). But I really don't see, perhaps it's due to my old ears, that Akon is Hip Hop, it's pure chart R & B.

I also appreciate the different styles Craig. So far I have mentioned Funkdoobiest, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, Disposable Heroes and Grandmaster Flash - that's quite a mixed bag so I can appreciate different styles. But I can also identify between R&B and Hip Hop!

It is I guess a matter of personal opinion. Some people might say Bon Jovi are a metal band. I would not.

Have you got the album then? I didnt expect much from 'The Cool', I merely got it on recommendation from Kanye's latest album but I found myself lost in it. I literally left it on repeat 3 or 4 times the first time i heard it.

Some others people may like include Aesop Rock, De La Soul, Dialated Peoples, Lethal Bizzle, Flobots and DJ Yoda if you want a bit of fun in your hip hop. 'You can be special too' by Evil NIne is another album I've been loving at the moment.

Theres so many sub genres now I've lost interest. If it sounds good to you then who cares. I can tolerate acorn on daytime radio but thats more to do with the fact I find him and his songs amusing.

You and me both mate. The lyricism is perfectly complemented by the stunning production work.

For me Gangster rap went stale years ago, most of the stuff ( with a few notable exceptions) out of the states is an embarassing *******isation of what hip hop used to be. The Majority of the English stuff aint much better, just with more raw beats. Chanel U, full of pranksters.

Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobus Pip - Angles. Thats a proper Hip Hop Album.

"i Love Hip Hop, But its hard to defend this $h!t, Its Hard to defend 'move ***** get out the way' well as you can see there is a ***** in his way and she needs to move... hence the term move ***** get out the way" Chris Rock
